    Dear Jenn,

I am currently moving house, do you have any frugal tips for this? I should add the caveat that I am moving from England to Scotland, so we have no choice but to use professional movers to move our furniture.

If you use a B1G1F Q on an item, are you also able to use a seperate Q (ex. $1/1) for the 2nd Item? I’ve never really gotten a clear answer.

I want to turn a pair of too short pants into a pair of just-right capris. Any frugal suggestions? I have never sewn anything more complicated than a button in my life, and I’m wondering how I go about measuring to get each leg equal.

Here’s another question I’ve been wondering about–do you have a frugal “recipe” for the cleaner that goes in a carpet steamer? I don’t want to have to buy another $12 bottle of that stuff!!!

  15. Emily says:

I started making my own laundry soap (dry kind) and my husband and I love how our clothes feel softer and cleaner than with other soaps. But we still use dryer sheets for the dryer– I’m looking for a cost-saving alternative to dryer sheets– can we make our own somehow?

Do you have any suggestions on how to get your spouse to help with a frugal lifestyle?

My husband understands that if we can save enough money, we can achieve some of our bigger goals – ex. a dream vacation, a paradise setting in landscaping, a new car, college money for our girls, etc. But he has a bad habit of just buying whatever he wants when he sees it, regardless of the price or the issue of space at home. I am talking about big ticket items, although the smaller impulse purchases add up too.

I tweeted too (twitter.com/missmouse16) although I don’t know how many people will see it

We want to be environmentally friendly and build something that will last but there is no way we will spend that much money on some wood! Do you have any frugal tips for building a deck?

  28. cwaltz says:

Most of the costs in our household are fixed costs. We can adjust our grocery spending, our electricity and our water consumption. I already coupon and stockpile do you have any suggestions on how I reduce electricity and water consumption costs?

  29. Nichole says:

We do already have dinner/party together, but we like to get them a gift also.

  35. Is it frugal to buy a meat slicer of your own and cook your own roasts, etc. for lunch meat? My problem is that I think we would get tired of the same meats over and over – can you freeze the cooked/sliced meats?

I have just bought a breadmaker (on clearance!!). Where is the best place to buy flour in bulk?

  37. We are doing our first garden this year with veggies. It’s small, but we have found buying the soil/compost and plants to get started a bit expensive. We don’t have room to do our own compost (or the inclination to be honest) and we don’t really have room inside to start plants from seeds in early spring. Any tips for being a more frugal vegetable gardener?
