This one is a great present for the kids in your life-big and small!
An I Spy Jar (also called a treasure jar or Eye Spy Jar) is simply a sealed clear jar filled with small “treasures” hidden in rice, beads or small pasta. You attach a list with all the items hidden inside-you have to turn and shake the jar hiding & revealing in turn the many small items buried inside.

I think this could be made easily with a repurposed/recycled glass jar, lots of little items from around the house (coins, paperclips, buttons, bits from kids toys & old games, a screw, a washer, a stone etc). What a fantastic reuse for all those little bits and pieces from games, toys and such that we all seem to collect throughout the years. You could also dye your rice for different look as well.

One of my friends suggested this project for me to make for my nephews’ Christmas presents…I think it will go over well with all of them (ages 4-11) I figure I will use a bigger jar with smaller items for the older boys!
So glad you found me-and yes, I think it would be a great gift! You could even (if you are physically close to them) tell the boys you are working on a project where you need small items and see if they have anything lying around to donate–they might get a kick out of seeing the stuff in there when they open their gift
