Cookies Etc in a Jar

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on October 10, 2006

Well, busy day! The kiddos are in school and daycare and I don’t have to work. So as soon as I get this posted it is out into the backyard to continue cleaning up the garden and prepping some beds for the spring.

But, since one of my friends IRL (Hi Christine!) who reads the blog asked about more “In a Jar” recipes, I thought I’d post a few links:

Allrecipes has a pretty extensive list. Click on the “show all” link at the top to see more!

The Creative Ladies Ministry have a very nice website set up with recipes for cookies, cakes, soups, beverage mixes etc in jars as well as vinegars, spice mixes and ideas for decorating jars.

That’s My Home has a ton of gift recipes. The menu on the left has the jar mixes broken down by category.

Recipe Goldmine also has a bunch of jar recipes, including 4 pages of cookies. Look in the box in the center labeled “Jar Mixes and Gift Recipes“.

This FAQ page at Cookbook Cupboard has a lot of interesting info on actually getting all the stuff into the jar! Since I haven’t actually jarred any of this stuff yet, I’m going to make sure I check this out.

Gifts from Your Kitchen is another good resource. They have 2 recipes for the “mixes in a cone” which look really neat. I only just found out that these cones are really the disposable icing bags, just without the tip cut out! How neat is that. I may be giving out some mixes for dips as well this holiday.

Budget 101 has a section on decorating your cones as well as some ideas for what to put in them. The big thing to remember, according to the site, is that each cone can only hold 2-3 cups of ingredients. So as long as your mix has less than that volume you are good.

As a disclaimer, I have not tried any of these recipes yet (other than the unsuccessful Dreamsicle Cookies). These are some of the sites I am going to use to make my gifts from though.

I was also thinking today that Jar Mixes may be my contribution to the Church Holiday Bazaar next month. I could probably make quite a few for a very reasonable cost.
