Holiday Basket Contents

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on September 30, 2006

Since several of you have asked, here are the contents of my typical Christmas basket that I have given to my family for the last several years:

Candied Orange Peels
Peppermint Bark
Biscotti
Watermelon Rind Pickles
Apple Butter

I have also on occasion sent Grandma Lila’s homemade chili sauce, homemade liquers (only for one year-they are costly to ship because of weight), homemade caramel corn, and carrot marmalade (Amanda was the only one who liked that one).

This year I didn’t make any watermelon rind pickles, and unless someone gives me a ton of tomatoes in the next week or so I won’t be making chili sauce (although I have several jars left from last year).
A reduced basket, which is probably what I’d sent this year, would include the candied orange peels, peppermint bark and some biscotti.

Jenn, you’re a gifted cook and creative frugalite. It’s well worth checking out your blog regularly for your lively, good-quality entries.

I think I’ll get busy in the kitchen for this Christmas, too. Thanks for some great ideas!

Uh, and don’t forget the spiced nuts… another favorite, although they didn’t ship as well last year… but a tastey treat!

Thats Right! I knew there was something missing but I couldn’t think of what it was. Pumpkin pie spiced nuts!
