I had such fun making video answers for your questions last time that I thought I’d do some more!
So here is your chance! What questions do you have for me? Or maybe you have a question for Buddy or Princess? I might even be able to tempt Yankee Bill in front of the camera (or not. . .who knows!)
Just like last time, ask whatever you like and I’ll just right here at the old Frugal Upstate desk and answer them using my webcam! All I ask is that we all stay respectful
I can’t wait to see what you all have for me this time!

Oooh, I have lots of questions this time – all Christmas-related
For Princess and Buddy, who are similar in age to my kids, “Do you give presents to your parents and sibling? If so, do you make them or buy them?”
For the grownups,”How have you scaled back Christmas to make it more frugal? What traditions do you keep because it just wouldn’t feel like Christmas without them? Gifts – buy, make, re-use? ”
We have scaled back a lot over the past years, and I am always interested to see how other people approach the holiday! Thanks
Do you use homemade cleaning supplies outside of laundry soap? I know you grow a lot of your own veggies, eat venison, and I read about the amazing organic bacon, what is your thoughts on organics overall? I buy organic for anything I eat the skin of or is consumed whole, non-organic anything I can peel (oranges, lemons, bananas, etc) just curious on your thoughts and philosphy on this subject =)
I was thinking again about the question forum and I wondered how much is it to obtain venison? My guess is you would have to calculate the hunting lisence, the cost of deer camp, ammo (any gun or bow maintenance), the gas, etc(trip costs), and the processing fee. I know my FIL has many deer on his rather larger farm property in Kentucky and when it is in the season he and my nephew will thin down the herd (I guess they can be dangerous if they get overpopulated) but he does not go to deer camp, so it is not very costly for him (he does his own processing to, he is kind of a mountain man LOL!). My personal conviction on hunting and fishing is fine as long as you are using the meat (which you guys do!) and not just obtaining trophies.
With fresh herbs being a flavorful but expensive recipe ingredient, I’m thinking of trying an indoor herb garden. Have you done indoor gardening?
okay, so here is my question….. did you give any thought to my comment about the eggs at the grocery store?!!!! it is one thing to be frugal, it is another to support the factory farms that are so awful to egg laying hens….. i can give you details- they shove about 5 hens in a cage as small as 2 pieces of paper, they clip off their beaks ( so they don’t peck each other to death) the hens never walk the earth and peck for bugs and grass as nature intended. their feet end up curling around the cage bottom, which is slanted so the eggs roll onto the conveyor belt….. if the egg production slows they turn off the lights, and don’t feed them for days…. somehow this jumpstarts egg production again. it is a horrible horrible industry. anyways, this is how i justify buying eggs from the cheestrap! they cost 2.50 a dozen, but are worth every penny. the chickens live on a small farm in greene. for so many reasons these eggs are so worth the money!!! don’t be frugal on eggs!!!!! now that you think i am a nut, i would love to hear your reaction!!!!!
