[...] “Jenn of Frugal Upstate and Lynnae of Being Frugal get together every Monday at 8:30 p.m. EST (5:30 PST) to share tips, tricks and techniques to help you live a great life while spending less. They go beyond coupon clipping and sale shopping” and have 20 podcasts on money saving topics that you can put in your mp3 player and listen to as you shuttle aging parents and grandkids around town or do your housework. Even better, listen as you take a walk and exercise your brain and your body at the same time. One of my favorite ways to do it! [...]

We use the waffle maker in the summer! We make waffles and put fresh strawberries and whipped cream! Delicious! It is our variation of strawberry shortcake without having to heat up the oven on the super hot nights! Plus it is usually so hot we aren't as hungry or want to eat as much!

We use the oven as little as possible in the summer. But some things require an oven. I have found that I can bake a chicken, casserole, breads, etc in the morning and get them done before noon. It's a great feeling to have dinner all ready and cooling in the fridge before the hottest part of the day begins!

I grilled today just for this very reason -- to avoid heating up my house. Nevermind that I got sweaty slaving over the hot grill.

Your post had some great tips and it reminded me of a post I did last summer as the temperature sweltered here in North Carolina. I shared some recipes for some no-cook meals that we really like.
