Empowering Women Together

I am glad to finally be able to talk about Walmart’s Empowering Women Together merchandise!!  The Walmart Moms were told about this program back in, oh, November I think. . . we were hoping it would launch before Christmas (because it would have been a great feel good way to get some unique gifts).

This program just launched this week on Walmart.com.  So what the heck is it?  Well basically it’s an online destination where you can buy unique and interesting products (totally unlike anything else on Walmart.com) that supports small women owned businesses around the world.  Each purchase helps the women behind these products by helping them create new jobs and improve both their own lives and the lives of their families and communities.

Walmart says:

By purchasing Empowering Women Together merchandise, you help the women who are our suppliers.  They are working to create better lives for themselves and their families, and they want to earn their own success.  Each purchase will help grow this initiative, allowing more women in more businesses and more countries to participate.  Walmart’s commitment is to help each of these businesses create, craft and market merchandise that our customers will want to buy.  Together, we can create a sustainable system that benefits everyone and builds momentum for real, lasting and positive change in the lives of our suppliers, their families and their communities.

Right now Empowering Women Together offers shoppers more than 200 items from 19 businesses in nine countries–including here in the USA:

The items are mostly home/decorating, jewelry, food and apparel.  Here are a few items that jumped out at me:

I love that you can have it shipped to your home, sometimes with “home free”, sometimes with $.97 shipping, and that you can also frequently do the free site to store pickup.

If you browse through the items I’d love to hear what you think.
