I am a prolific reader. I love learning new things, I love a good story and I just plain love reading. My idea of a perfect day is to curl up in a chair with a cup of hot coffee and read all day with no interruptions. You can guess how often that happens.
I have a habit of getting into our library system’s online card catalog and requesting a bunch of books on the “topic du’jour” that I’m interested in. And when I say a bunch, I mean a bunch. 10 or so at a time. So I thought it would be fun every once in a while to just share what books I’m taking out. Here are the books I took out today:
There are two of the “Homestead Blessings” videos–one on making dairy items like cheese, the other on soapmaking. Soap Craft, Cosmetics from the Kitchen, Jeanne Rose’s Herbal Body Book, Organic Body Care Recipes, The Natural Soap Chef, Sepp Holzer’s Permaculture, Too Much Magic, Soapmaker’s Workshop, The Winter Harvest Handbook, Wholesome Kitchen, Guide to Medicinal Herbs and the Cooks Illustrated Cookbook.
I’m not recommending these books as things you should read–I chose them from the library based on a brief online description so it’s hard to tell if they will be good or not! And don’t worry, I won’t read all of these resource books-rather I’ll flip through and see what types of information they hold and if it’s really what I’m looking for. I’ll peruse the recipes. Some of them will only merit a 20 minute flip through while sitting on the sofa while hubs watches the news. They’ll go right back in the library bag. A few I’ll read bigger sections that interest me. A few I’ll read from end to end.
I’ll probably end up with one or two to put on my “resource library wish list” to purchase some day.
And in two weeks, I’ll be doing it all again!

was it any good?

Great minds! I JUST did this. Last week’s topic was “photoshop”. I have Elements 10 on my computer and I have to use it occasionally for work, plus I figured that knowing a bit more would be good for the blog too so I have 5 or 6 books on Photoshop Elements 10 that I’m browsing through. This week it’s needle crafts. There are some knit & crochet stitches that I’ve been wanting to learn (or learn the differences of) so I was scouring the library shelves for needle crafts and stitch dictionaries.
The library is a beautiful thing isn’t it?

Photoshop is on my eventual list of things to learn.
