Review and Giveaway: Eureka Airspeed

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on October 8, 2010

Sometimes a review opportunity comes along at just the right time.

My vacuum is dying.  I mean really dying.  I’ve been considering buying a new one-but of course being a frugal gal I am at loathe to buy something new when the old one is still working-albeit poorly.  Of course the fact that I typically wait until it is completely unavoidable before I vacuum doesn’t help matters.

So when Eureka offered me the opportunity to review their new Airspeed, I jumped it.

Eureka Vacuum

Eureka recently released to the market the Eureka AirSpeed. This vacuum sells exclusively to Walmart for $119.96 (check out the videos-they are actually pretty cool). This is a bag less vacuum with the following features:

* HEPA filter removes up to 99.97 percent of all allergens for cleaner home
* Turbo powered stair and upholstery brush removes dust, allergens and pet dander from upholstery backs and stair risers
* No tools required for assembly
* Upholstery and dusting brush, extension wand and crevice tool
* 27′ power cord with easy cord release
* Flip bottom dust cup for easy emptying

This vacuum worked well.  They claim it works as well as the Dyson-I don’t know about that personally, but several other bloggers I know who reviewed it and actually *have* a Dyson have told me that the suction is as good (or better) with the Eureka Airspeed, but that the maneuverability-while good-is not as excellent as the Dyson.  On the other hand at $119.96, the Eureka is 1/3 the price. Now that’s frugal!

There are several things I really liked about the Airspeed:

1-I like that there is an actual attachments setting-that means that there is no suction on the attachment hose until you turn it on-so for your regular vacuuming all the “sucking” power is on your floor!

2-I like that it is bagless.  I hate the idea of buying bags all the time. Ick. Frugal gals love things that can be reusued over and over.

3-I like that the filters are washable.  Although they will eventually have to be replaced, the unit comes with a special brush to clean the filter and they tell you upfront that you can wash it with water.  Love that! Just make sure it’s totally dry before you use it again!

4-I like the power brush attachment.  Not only does the rotating brush part really seem to work (on some vacuums that function is pretty anemic) but the suction is really good.  I used it to vacuum my stairs and it did a great job.

5-I really liked that the power brush attaches to the main unit with a magnet.  That was just too cool-instead of having to snap the dang thing in there and then having it fall off every time I bumped into something (which happens with my dying one) as soon as it got close enough it attached itself.  Love that.

So now comes the fun part! How would you like to win your very own Eureka Airspeed?

Giveaway is from October 8th to midnight EST October 14th.

My biggest challenge is fighting with the little dog. Seems she thinks the vacuum is trying to move in on her turf and I have to put her in the bathroom every time I vacuum!

My biggest vacuuming problem is lack of suction with my current vacuum. I have to go over and over the floor to have it cleaned. I also have been changing everything in my lie to be more “green” for the planet and I must stop the madness of buying bags for a vacuum. Funny that there hasn’t been a re-usable washable bag invented for vacs…or maybe there has been and I’m just not up to speed on it.

Thank you for the contest and the chance to dream of winning.

I just heard about this vacuum online today. I was intrigued because my Dyson was frustrating me to the point that I called their helpline (they weren’t much help, though). The Dyson is fine on my OLD (27+ years!) carpet, but on new carpet (6 years old) and thick pile, it couldn’t pick up lint! Used it on some newer carpet in the guest room and it started to fuzz up the carpet and then instead of sucking it up, it was spreading it around! I was ready to throw the thing down the stairs! I would love to try this vacuum!

My biggest challenge with vacuuming is that, like you, I want until I can wait no longer. The floor is fairly crunchy by the time I give in. Thankfully, the kids are old enough to have that as one of their chores, so vacuuming is becoming more regular now. And I’m always on the search for the best vacuum. I’d love to give this one a try!

My biggest challenge while vacuuming is getting the cord to reach to clean a whole room. I hate having to plug it in a second time just to get one little corner. :)

Biggest issue with vacuuming is multiple surfaces types, hardwoods, carpet tiles, shag, tile, bamboo floor mats. Seems like we have it all!

Vacuuming is full of challenges for me. First, my son is terrified of the noise vacuums make. (He’s also afraid of bathroom fans, but that’s a whole different story!) Second, I have a preschool and a toddler that constantly leave crumbs, dirt, leaves, pinecones, … ALL OVER THE HOUSE. Third, my current vacuum is dying. It no longer has much suction and I believe I’ve worn down the beater brush so much that it barely picks up anything anymore. But my biggest challenge is my waist length hair. I constantly have to cut it off the brush and by constantly I mean twice every time I vacuum my house — which is only 1200 square feet.

my biggest challenge with my vacuum is that it’s an old-fashioned canister style with a hose that keeps getting stepped on. my husband, bless his heart, periodically uses pliers to get me some suction again….. this is getting very old!
