Video Answer: Do You Start Seeds? Do Your Kids Complain?

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on November 2, 2011

The video response video was very popular, so here is another one from that same Q&A session.  Enjoy!

Leslie asks: Do you start your own seeds? How big is your garden?

Ruthie & Leslie ask: Do your children ever complain about their frugal life?

Since folks were wondering what Princess and Buddy thought of our frugal life, well, I decided to ask them!

What does Buddy think?

What does Princess think?

Thanks for the answers. Your kids are cute, and answered so well.

I am jealous of your gardens, we have either 100% shade or part shade in every single part of our yard, so it really limits what we can grow. Plus we are in upstate NY too and have the same short growing season.

You know there are lots of things that will grow in the shade-they just won’t grow as big or as well. Leafy vegetables like chard, lettuce, spinach etc. I’ve also been fascinated to read about “cornfield” beans. . . they are beans that were used specifically to grow up the corn stalks–which means they are mostly in the shade. I might try some along my shady fence next summer and see what kid of yield I get.

Two very good communicators, these kids of yours! My daughter is now 29, and I got a phone call two days ago, because she just wanted to tell me she had saved half on her shopping, and was thrilled. My son’s car recently died, but, he had enough saved so he was able to buy a good, small car. It warms my heart that while they may have complained a little at the time, they were watching and learning from mom.

Thanks, I think they are pretty darn awesome kids. It sounds like you raise up some pretty good people yourself there!
