Recently I had a reader and fellow blogger mention me in a post they wrote. They said that I have “quirky” frugal ideas.
To be honest, I was a bit floored. I don’t TRY to be quirky-the things I do seem pretty common sense to me! But I guess this is like me and being funny-folks always think I’m the most humorous when I am being serious. Yeah, that’s me, a misunderstood genius.
So now I’m totally curious-what ideas have I suggested or things have I told you all about that you think are quirky!
Oh, and for the record, I’m not offended. Actually I’m rather flattered. I used to have a pin in High school that said “Why Be Normal?”-which, of course, I wore upside down.

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any truly frugal quirks. But then, I found your blog after reading a book that told how to make paper-mache from dryer lint! I will say that sometimes your food combinations seem odd to me. Especially when you’re trying to use up odds and ends – but I am an admitted picky eater, so I’m not a good judge!
I wouldn’t think of you as quirky, although you do have the ability to think outside the box and maybe that’s what the person meant when they referred to you as quirky.
The idea of using empty jars and cans as drainage in planters might be a bit quirky, but by that I just mean that it’s so far from their originally intended use that few people would think of it. But you did. Others would just drop them in the recycling or do the usual and use the jars to hold nails and screws in the garage.
Am I making any sense?
Quirky, maybe… but fun to read- definitely! Thanks for doing what you do – I can’t wait to add the spicy roasted carrot/apple/ginger soup recipe to my recipe book!

Quirky? Maybe I don’t find you quirky because I also am often called quirky.
And I LOVE your blog!!!
I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, and I’ve never thought that you were quirky. As MJ said, maybe that is because I’m quirky too! – Mac
Nope, you aren’t quirky, but you are creative and ingenuitive. Keep up the wonderful work that you do. My mornings are always enlightened by reading your blog.
Some people think that washing ziploc bags is quirky. DH included. Whatever! I like that your blog is simple, yet very informative.

I’ve not noticed any of your ideas to be quirky, and many things I’m doing already – I guess maybe that makes me quirky too. If so, I’m okay with that!
I enjoy your blog very much. I appreciate your ideas and friendly tone.
I had that same pin in high school. Not upside-down, though. =)

Those who call you quirky are either jealous or ignorant. I find you refreshing and helpful. Keep up the good work, please.

I don’t think your ideas are quirky at all!
I’m really sorry I called you quirky. I meant no insult. In our family, we refuse to follow the norm. Definiely being frugal in today’s world of comercialism and materialism might seem a little out of the norm or, perish the thought, quirky. While you are not odd, strange, crazy, or any other negative form of different, I love you fun posts. They inform. They transform. They sometimes make me laugh. You are forever pronounced un-quirky.
I guess I would never thought of quirky with a negative connotation…I think being quirky and being called quirky is a compliment. And, Jenn….. as your sister I am telling you that you ARE quirky
Listen to Amanda…quirky is a compliment in my book. Looks like it is in Kate’s too!
Oh yeah, I’m called quirky all the time. Must be a family trait!!
Kate-calling Jenn quirky was not insulting. She grew up in a family of true individualists. When you are secure you don’t need to be like everyone else, you have the confidence to be yourself, and to see life from a different perspective. It’s probably like looking at a lemon-some people see a sour fruit and some see the potential for sweet lemonade. But that is what makes the world go round.
Jenn, this is a great blog. Keep up the good work, and good luck with the writing/speaking gig.
