Linking: How to Use a Bread Machine

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on July 4, 2007

Still on vacation, but wanted to give you something other than fashion tips to look at :)

Amy over at the Mother Load has a great article on how to use your bread machine-sort of a primer for the beginner. Go over and check it out if you have one that’s been gathering dust in the closet, or if you’ve been considering picking up a bargain jobby at the thrift store/garage sales this summer.

Personally we use ours most often for pizza dough at the Frugal Upstate household, but I may get more into bread this fall. . . . especially if I decide to go more organic. I’m sure that homebaked bread with organic flour would be MUCH cheaper than store bought organic bread. (just slap the name organic in front of anything and you know the price will be more)

I ran mine into the ground and need to get a new one…one of these days. It’s on my wish list!

Just checking this blog (you are referenced in Parents mag., didya know?)
I totally got a mint condition bread maker for $2.50 at a garage sale. It made the best loaf of bread I have had from a bread machine. Whooee!

M2F-Hope you find another soon. They are great if you actually USE them :)

Anon-glad you like the site. I am aware that I’m in Parents Mag, I just haven’t had time to post about it-I’m on vacation.

I do have one gathering dust! I wasn’t too keen on the brick-shaped loaves of bread it produced, but I love the pizza dough idea. Thank you for giving me the motivation to give the breadmaker another try.

Ya enjoy your vaction!! This blog is helpful and rules!! Oh I think the 99 cents only store is great!! They should put more in!! You can find great buys there. To find one they say to call 1-800-LUCKY-99. They are just great!! Sometimes you can even find clothes there and shoes. Good luck!!! Happy summer!!!

Glad everyone is finding this helpful. Amy has lots of great stuff on her site.

If, like Anon said, you aren’t fond of the weird bread machine loaves, don’t forget your dough cycle. You can let the machine do all the hard work and then just stick it in the oven. If you can use your timer function with the dough cycle, you could have the dough waiting for you right before supper time to be stuck in the oven.

I have recently discovered my dough cycle and am loving it. I find it makes better bread and better sandwiches. I feel more in control of how my loaves turn out. Thanks again!
