$100 Gift Card Giveaway

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on December 2, 2008

One of the most fantastic things about being one of the Walmart Elevenmoms is that people keep giving me things. Things I get to give away to all of you!

It makes me feel like Santa Claus.

Especially this year when times are so tight!

Walmart has come through with another wonderful giveaway. Each of the Eleven Moms was offered the chance to give away an item, up to $100, from the latest Walmart Holiday Gift Guide.

I’ve got to say, there is some fabulous stuff in there! Many, many items that personally I would love to get. But the stress of deciding what YOU might want to get was a little much, you know, on top of my own holiday decorating, cooking, shopping and the ever present threat of Christmas cards that need to be written. . . .

So I took the chicken way out. The second option was that instead of picking a gift, we could just offer a gift card and let you pick out whatever you wanted at your own local Walmart.

Heck, I figured that way I can’t go wrong!

I decided to do this one a bit differently:

This time you have to search through my archives (yes, there is a little archive button up there at the top you can click) and find an older article you think is interesting.

Then you have to comment, linking to the post and telling me why you chose it.

DOUBLE WHAMMY HERE FOLKS-YOU CAN NOT PICK A POST SOMEONE ELSE ALREADY HAS PICKED.

So you need to check the other comments first-or your entry WILL NOT COUNT. I mean it, I’m going to be heartless. It’s not fair to the folks who follow the directions.

This contest runs from today, Tuesday December 2nd to Saturday December 6th at midnight.

OK. Begin!

I’ll have to chime in on this one, and offer a favorite post:
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/02/starting-frugality-saving-on-food-part.html
This is the first Saving on Food post, about lunches, packing your own, and eating at home vs. eating out. It seems so simple the way you lay it out, but those numbers are shockers!!

Can’t wait for the Christmas series to start…I have some traditions to offer. Need to think about frugal gifts/etc/

This was a difficult decision to narrow down because you have one of the most informative sites on the web about saving $$. I really love the Gift Box aka How to Avoid Last Minute Runs to The Toy Store:
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2006/04/gift-box-aka-how-to-avoid-last-minute.html
I like to look at the Clearance endcaps at Target, Walmart & kMart for good deals and I stash them away in a chest in my bedroom closet. We have 5 kids who are always being invited to parties. Right now, I am pulling things out to donate to the Toys for Tots and Angel Tree donations. Its a great idea! Thanks for the entry!

Okay, I have to say that while I loved this post (the first one I ever read!) I liked how you linked to other bloggers about frugal subversivity….some good links that led me to making some good changes in my life.

but my favorite blog is THIS ONE! Yeah, I didn’t know if I could count it, so I went back to the first one I read. But this is great because I read through 65 comments and got distracted a few times because I had to look up a post that sounded facinating!

Keep up the amazing motivation and inspiration!

Organizing- Divide and Concquer.
I love this post because it is so true in my life too! If it has a spot I will put it away. If it doesn’t have it’s own little place then it will sit in a clutter pile until I can’t stand it any longer and spend a day trying to organize the clutter pile.

http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/06/frugal-food-part-three-beans.html

I loved all the parts of the frugal food series, it has come in handy in the past few months as food prices continue to rise. I especially love the beans one! It inspired me to try more bean recipes and – hang on to your hats – my family actually likes them! So now I’m making even more bean recipes, good for our health and our wallet!

I especially liked the tip of soaking and cooking and then freezing. I do this all the time now and I LOVE IT!

Thanks!

Although I’m becoming addicted to this site, the link above is my favorite because it was a tremendous help in planning my daughter’s 7th birthday party (and the first time I discovered this site). The ideas were great from the printable party invitations/favors to the games – not to mention I saved quite a bit of money! The cake was a hit although Hannah took out the back side of the cake ;) The girls (even dad) had fun pinning the microphone on Hannah Montana (a framed poster that we used as a gift for Samantha’s room). I’m just wondering what kind of party Princess will have next year and hope you post the details again!! This was a great idea as I’m discovering more new tips (and I found the recipe for your beer bread – Yes, I think I paid over $5 for the mix!!) Thanks for your time and all your awesome posts!!

It even includes a recipe for laundry detergent that costs .12 per load as opposed to paying .43 per load by purchasing Tide. Very Interesting.

Well, I’m 18 at the moment, so I picked one from May of 06, for my “sweet sixteen”. I actually chose May 29, the day before my birthday for this post:

http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2006/05/some-gave-all.html

I think it’s a great post and obviously it’s very important to remember those that died for our country, especially nowadays when people are still dying. It hits home a bit more just b/c my brother is planning on joining the army and it’s a bit scary for me…I definitely don’t want anything to happen to him.
