One of the most fantastic things about being one of the Walmart Elevenmoms is that people keep giving me things. Things I get to give away to all of you!
It makes me feel like Santa Claus.
Especially this year when times are so tight!
Walmart has come through with another wonderful giveaway. Each of the Eleven Moms was offered the chance to give away an item, up to $100, from the latest Walmart Holiday Gift Guide.
I’ve got to say, there is some fabulous stuff in there! Many, many items that personally I would love to get. But the stress of deciding what YOU might want to get was a little much, you know, on top of my own holiday decorating, cooking, shopping and the ever present threat of Christmas cards that need to be written. . . .
So I took the chicken way out. The second option was that instead of picking a gift, we could just offer a gift card and let you pick out whatever you wanted at your own local Walmart.
Heck, I figured that way I can’t go wrong!
I decided to do this one a bit differently:
This time you have to search through my archives (yes, there is a little archive button up there at the top you can click) and find an older article you think is interesting.
Then you have to comment, linking to the post and telling me why you chose it.
DOUBLE WHAMMY HERE FOLKS-YOU CAN NOT PICK A POST SOMEONE ELSE ALREADY HAS PICKED.
So you need to check the other comments first-or your entry WILL NOT COUNT. I mean it, I’m going to be heartless. It’s not fair to the folks who follow the directions.
This contest runs from today, Tuesday December 2nd to Saturday December 6th at midnight.
OK. Begin!

This post helped me to get some new ideas for my summer potlucks/bbqs!
YEa!! I’m so glad that nobody picked mine yet… The first one that originally brought me to your site was http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/09/making-laundry-detergent.html
I’m interested in trying to make my own laundry detergent because it’s so expensive!! Thanks for the video and interesting post!!
The link for the Cafe’s Pecan Pumpkin Pie is my favorite. I love trying new pumpkin pie recipes. I plan to use this one for my Christmas dinner. Thanks!

Thanks for the opportunity for a another great give away!

Well I hope this still counts…someone linked to your best of post, but not the original.
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2006/01/frugal-laundry-clothing-care.html
this was the first time I’d ever heard of making your own detergent. I tried it shortly there after and have been making it ever since. Also appreciated the dyer tip about soaking the sponge. Doing that one too.
I love http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2007/03/making-of-lunch-for-princess-lunchbox.html
I love it because it had so many great tips for making healthy and interesting lunches for the kiddos! I never thought outside the pb&j box before! Thank you!

I love this post because I was looking for something to do with my school kiddos for a different ornament. I even sent the link ot my mom. She teaches kindergarten and I think she might use it also. Love your blog and I always look forward to the weekly menu! Thanks for the great giveaway.

I’ll have to chime in on this one, and offer a favorite post:
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/02/starting-frugality-saving-on-food-part.html
This is the first Saving on Food post, about lunches, packing your own, and eating at home vs. eating out. It seems so simple the way you lay it out, but those numbers are shockers!!
Can’t wait for the Christmas series to start…I have some traditions to offer. Need to think about frugal gifts/etc/
I have been on the lookout for recipes to use with chicken and this one looks great.

Talk about some good, old-fashioned fun! I love your tips. Thanks so much!
I new to blogging so I’m not sure how to link. I really like your post on organizing computer files. This post helped me organize and declutter my desk top. The post date is 1-22-08 and the title is Organizing Your Computer Files.
I am enjoying many of your past posts. Thanks for the great giveaway!
This was a difficult decision to narrow down because you have one of the most informative sites on the web about saving $$. I really love the Gift Box aka How to Avoid Last Minute Runs to The Toy Store:
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2006/04/gift-box-aka-how-to-avoid-last-minute.html
I like to look at the Clearance endcaps at Target, Walmart & kMart for good deals and I stash them away in a chest in my bedroom closet. We have 5 kids who are always being invited to parties. Right now, I am pulling things out to donate to the Toys for Tots and Angel Tree donations. Its a great idea! Thanks for the entry!
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2007/08/subversive-and-frugal-yup-thats-me.html
Okay, I have to say that while I loved this post (the first one I ever read!) I liked how you linked to other bloggers about frugal subversivity….some good links that led me to making some good changes in my life.
but my favorite blog is THIS ONE! Yeah, I didn’t know if I could count it, so I went back to the first one I read. But this is great because I read through 65 comments and got distracted a few times because I had to look up a post that sounded facinating!
Keep up the amazing motivation and inspiration!
I like the post "25 things that I do that DON'T save money-and Why posted October 13,2006. It neat to see the areas that people are frugal & where they spend for quality or because time is worth more than the cost. Mrs.Clark

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. All of our journeys to frugalness start somewhere and I suggest that everyone read this post. It is very timely.
Thank you Jenn. I am searching through your archives now to glean more information.
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2006/07/quick-tip-noodles.html
This tip is something I will try the next time I make pasta. I like the idea of saving energy as well as time. I might just use the one stove eye to start the noodles and then heat up the sauce while the noodles sit. Excellent

Organizing- Divide and Concquer.
I love this post because it is so true in my life too! If it has a spot I will put it away. If it doesn’t have it’s own little place then it will sit in a clutter pile until I can’t stand it any longer and spend a day trying to organize the clutter pile.

oh my, I hope I checked the others well enough, such good links!

Yeah! No one has chosen the one I like.
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/06/frugal-food-part-three-beans.html
I loved all the parts of the frugal food series, it has come in handy in the past few months as food prices continue to rise. I especially love the beans one! It inspired me to try more bean recipes and – hang on to your hats – my family actually likes them! So now I’m making even more bean recipes, good for our health and our wallet!
I especially liked the tip of soaking and cooking and then freezing. I do this all the time now and I LOVE IT!
Thanks!

I love all your posts. Please enter me in the giftcard drawing. Thanks, Frugalgal5@aol.com

http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2007/05/homemade-frosting-icing-recipe.html
I always just add food coloring to store-bought frosting, but will definitely give this a try next time I make a cake for one of my kids.
I really liked Avoid the Take-out- and drive thru Trap!
frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/10/avoid-take-out-and-drive-thru-trap.html
Being a part of a family of 7, it is easy to get caught in that trap and it cost a lot. All the reciepes and ideas you offered are easy and quick. thank you so much for all you do on your blog.
I hope I did not choose one that someone else did. I was reading thru the other post while my very demanding 2 year old was wanting something. What’s new?

I had a hard time choosing, but one of your posts that has helped me the most is your quick tip on household notebooks. It helps to keep everything organized in one spot and I loved the free printables you linked to as well.

Okay, I’m sick of looking through this list and finding my favorites taken! I’m 99% sure this one wasn’t on there and I think I only saw the beans day listed so far. I loved this whole series!

I liked your blog from Sunday, July 16th, 2006 Gardening-Frugal or not? because I still can’t figure out if I am saving any money by gardening.
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/11/readers-question-giveaways-frugality.html
Wow, I kinda wish I’d gotten in on this one earlier.
I enjoyed this post because it seems crazy to me that people are complaining about a giveaway. I mean hello?! You’re giving stuff for free? I’m hoping a giveaway will give me a Christmas this year. To me those people that commented just seemed rude. Glad I found your blog!
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/10/more-on-how-to-can-venison-at-home.html
I liked this article because we’re traveling to my folks’ place for Christmas and I was trying to figure out how to bring venison meat back through five states easily. This will be a fun project for 3 generations to do together!
It was a totally lucky archive hit because I looked up my birthday and found an answer to an on-going issue!
Thanks! HotMommy

http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/04/hosting-frugal-hannah-montana-birthday.html
Although I’m becoming addicted to this site, the link above is my favorite because it was a tremendous help in planning my daughter’s 7th birthday party (and the first time I discovered this site). The ideas were great from the printable party invitations/favors to the games – not to mention I saved quite a bit of money! The cake was a hit although Hannah took out the back side of the cake
The girls (even dad) had fun pinning the microphone on Hannah Montana (a framed poster that we used as a gift for Samantha’s room). I’m just wondering what kind of party Princess will have next year and hope you post the details again!! This was a great idea as I’m discovering more new tips (and I found the recipe for your beer bread – Yes, I think I paid over $5 for the mix!!) Thanks for your time and all your awesome posts!!
Christine
I found your blog because MSN money blog highlighted your frugal food series. I don’t think it was the ground beef one but beans and eggs are already taken.
I also enjoyed finding some neat blogs because the series was interactive and had some neat links. http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/06/frugal-food-part-four-ground-meat.html
I hope I did this right.

This is such a cleaver idea and
I like it because I took some
time looking at your blog
and what others had written.
I truly mean this, This has
become one of my favorite blogs
I am so looking forward to keep
up with it.
I like this part because I to like
to eat sprouts but didn’t know
how easy it was to grow them.
Thanks, I will be trying it.

i enjoyed the post http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/02/comparing-methods-of-travel.html because i’m always curious about which way is cheaper. i guess it depends on where you go!
I really enjoyed http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/10/halloween-hand-cute-quick-easy-frugal.html . I think the “Halloween Hand” is super cute and really creative. I will definitely be printing this out to use next year!
I enjoyed reading about how to save money doing laundry, my most dreaded chore at : http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2006/01/frugal-laundry-clothing-care.html
It even includes a recipe for laundry detergent that costs .12 per load as opposed to paying .43 per load by purchasing Tide. Very Interesting.
Well, I’m 18 at the moment, so I picked one from May of 06, for my “sweet sixteen”. I actually chose May 29, the day before my birthday for this post:
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2006/05/some-gave-all.html
I think it’s a great post and obviously it’s very important to remember those that died for our country, especially nowadays when people are still dying. It hits home a bit more just b/c my brother is planning on joining the army and it’s a bit scary for me…I definitely don’t want anything to happen to him.

I love this: http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/09/quick-tip-cleaning-sneakers.html
You´re like a mom after my own heart, great tip and great motto: Use what you have. Clean it up instead of buying a new one and don´t be ashamed of it.
Thank you for the chance to win this great blessing.

I really like the idea about the playsilks. This will be great to do in kids ministry. I believe this will inspire the imagination of those who are young at heart. Thanks for the opportunity to win the gift card.

Hi Jen!
I love many, many of your posts and have finally had time to go through all the picks and pick one that didn’t get done already! The exciting thing is its one of the ones I commented on
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/2008/07/frugal-food-part-five-chicken-whole-and.html
I loved the entire frugal food series…some new recipies joined our collection! The chicken one was close to my heart because I used to live about 3 minutes away from Tower Chicken, which is the photo you posted!
I love your blog and am excited to enter the contest. Who couldn’t use a Wal-mart card this time of year?
Thanks,

I knew immediately which post I would choose. I just had to read through the comments and see if anyone already chose it. And I’m glad I did, I found a bunch more interesting posts that I hadn’t read.
My favorite:

I was so intrigued with the idea of winter sowing! I tried it last year with mixed results, but I plan to try again this year.
Thanks so much for your blog!
