This weeks Festival is hosted by Sharon at “The Frugal Duchess“. There are 30 fabulous entries this week, including my post on “Columbia DVD Club-Good Deal or Not?“.
As always, here are two posts that particularly caught my eye, but go on over and check them all out!
Adventures in Parenting has a post on “Overdoing Easter“. This one caught my eye because I have been very conscious of the inflation of holidays lately. For example-Princess came home from school talking about the leprechauns coming to the house and leaving candy. EXCUSE ME? Since when is ST PATRICK’S DAY a holiday when you surprise your kids with candy? I told her that I didn’t know who she had been talking to, but as far as I knew there were no leprechauns coming to our house and that I had NEVER had any EVER IN MY WHOLE LIFE come and leave candy. We compromised by promising in the summer (when there is sun and rain to make them) that we would chase some rainbows and see if we could find the pot of gold. She seemed happy.
Stephanie at Stop the Ride has a great article about Frugal Balance. She buys certain items in various forms depending on their use-ie powdered milk for baking but real milk for drinking. We do this at the Frugal Upstate household as well.

Candy bearing leprechauns? Now I’ve heard it all!
Thanks for the link love!
Hey, if the little green dudes came bringing a trove of Guiness or Kilkenny – now that would be a welcome diversion….
Anon-Unfortunately the only folks bearing beer around here are YB or myself. And we have to pay for it
Ah, the unfairness of life!
Thanks for the mention.
Ienjoyed your entry!
leprechauns leaving money… you have to love that one. That’s like when I heard that the Easter bunny brings PRESENTS? What? Excuse me, since when is candy not adequate?
My favorite part of being a parent is the holidays. I am one of those parents who leave candy (gold nuggets, because I have trouble finding the coins that I would have preferred) from the Leprecauns. My kids know that it’s me, but still love waking up to find the candy on the bed. It’s just for fun, and is inexpensive ($2.24 for the bag of candy at Wal-Mart). We all make choices about what we do as parents. For instance, the tooth fairy leaves $1 at our house, but I hear the going rate at a lot of houses is as much as $5!

Shiela-I can understand your point, and if it works for your family, great. I just don’t like feeling pressured by school and society into yet another holiday. I’m totally into Christmas, and Easter etc. But I don’t give my children valentines day gifts (after all, that’s a holiday for lovers) and I personally refuse to upgrade St. Paddy’s day and such. Don’t even get me started on Sweetest day.
Yeah, but little miss tish is pretty smart… maybe she was just trying to see if you’d fall for “the leprechauns bring candy” story….
I agree with Annonymous, if they brought Guiness that would be cool.
