Well, I uploaded a bunch of photos of the work etc on the house to Flickr:
Frugal Upstate’s House Renovations
I hope that you all can see them!
Flickr is a free photo sharing service online. Although I’ve used them a lot to find pictures for this blog (I just search a term and then narrow the search to those who have a creative commons copyright that says I can use them legally), this is the first time I’ve uploaded photos. This is a nice, easy, free way to share photos with lots of folks without clogging up people’s inboxes or slowing down their bandwith when viewing a blog. See how nice and considerate I am
I’m not quite sure if you can comment there if you don’t have a Flickr account-does anyone know?

{ 8 comments… read them below or add one }
You decide on your own flickr stream if you want to allow comments at all, comments from members only or comments from anyone.
It is under “Your Account” –> “Privacy and Permissions” –> “Defaults for New Uploads”
Ok, I lied.
I just went to check and actually there are options . . . no comments, only you, friends and family, or flickr members.
So, yes, you have to have an account to comment on photos.
I’m too lazy to figure out the comments there, so I’ll dump it all here instead.
Thanks for sharing all the photos! I was so excited to see the house and the family.
I love the staircase and the tall windows. Loads of light. I can tell this is a GREAT house!
I would never have thought about using sanded paint to conceal a rough ceiling. I’ll have to remember that.
We had similar wallpaper/border/paneling issues in our first house. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a hatred of wallpaper borders ever since.
Oh, a Craftsman style home! The windows are lovely. It is a wonderful house and I wish you the best. It also looks like you have your work cut out for you!
Are the walls sheetrock or plaster? It is hard to tell by the photos. ALL wood floors– so nice!
It is great that the previous owners left the woodwork alone and didn’t slather endless layers of, say, mustard yellow lead paint over anything and everything, even, for example, all over the beautiful original Black Walnut trim in the living room that can never be restored now…. (sigh)
Amanda-Thanks for the pointers on Flickr!
Meredith-Wallpaper is BAD. I may put up a border in each of the kids rooms, but (cheesey as it sounds) I may just staple it up. . .. that way I can change it easy when they decided they hate it. I’ve noticed that our local Dollar Tree has some cute borders and coordinated wall stickers-the kind that peel right off.
Mrs. M.-I see you speak from experience. I am truly blessed that #1 people have left all the woodwork as is and #2 the previous owners stripped all the ugly ancient wallpaper off. Even if they did rewallpaper some, at least the modern stuff isn’t as awful to remove.
Wow, it looks like you guys have done a ton of work. I bet you are ALL exhausted. How nice though to have all of that done at the same time. We are still painting and we have lived in our house four years.
I loathe wallpaper and this house was a wallpaper nightmare. They didn’t use the right glue and after scoring the paper, we realized that we had scored through the entire wall…it just was worse and worse.
We have one bathroom left- the other one had mildew under the four layers of wallpaper, so thick that we ended up taking the walls out and starting with fresh drywall. It was a nightmare!
I feel for you! I really, really do!
You guys are going to love it all when you are finished though. What a sense of accomplishment you will have!!!
You guys have done so much work already! Thanks for sharing. I hope you continue to post pics as you go as now I really want to see it all finished!
Wow, that house looks like one from the movies. You are doing a wonderful job. What a beautiful family and house!!! Good luck!! Annette Wow
