so sorry for saying the wrong information. I was always told by middle eastern friends(and when I’ve gone overseas to Turkey and other middle eastern countries for the military) that shish refers to lamb, so calling a beef kabap or kabob “shish” is a no-no. But hey, i’m not Turkish like you are so i’ll leave it at that.

Shish does not mean lamb. Shish means skewer. Shish Kebap actually means meat grilled on a skewer.

I am Turkish so I know. Kebab (in our case kebap) is any kind of meat that is cooked on a grill. Since lamb is tender, most people prefer lamb for kebaps but, chicken, all sorts of red meat, some fish and veggies can be cooked on a shish. They will all be called shish kebap. little known fact: shish kabob actually means “lamb stick”. the “shish” part means lamb, so unless its made from lamb, you don’t have to say(or type) that part. Another cocktail party useless fact from me

also, i’ve heard of(and tasted) spiedies. And i’m over an hour away from you . Yum!
