Yesterday morning I was halfway through getting Princess (4) and Buddy (2) out the door to bring the little princess to nursery school when I realized that it was her day to bring in the snack.
Yes, the school sends home a calendar at the beginning of the month saying what day your child brings in snack.
Yes, I wrote that information both on the kitchen calendar and the small calendar in my purse.
Yes, the school sends home a reminder the friday before to all children who have snack the next week.
I forgot anyway. (in my defense-I had been at play reahearsal until 1130pm the night before. Tonight is opening night.)
This could have been a rather costly mistake-running out to buy a load of last minute snacks and juice for 20 kids at the much more expensive grocery store here in town. Enter the benefits of a well stocked pantry/freezer. I grabbed a box of cheese it style crackers (Aldi’s brand of course) a box of Ritz wannabees (same) a bag of pepperoni from the freezer (bought at the dollar store-and it is regular Armour brand) and a can of frozen juice that I had in the freezer. I did go and spend $2 to buy a block of cheese on sale at the grocery store, but that was because I prefer my pepperoni with cheese-the kids probably would have been fine without it.
Having a well stocked pantry can save you money not only by stocking up on foods when they are on sale, but also because it prevents last minute trips to buy things. You can save gas, save by not picking up impulse buys (like my mom who goes into the store to buy 2 things and comes out with 4 bags last weekend) and by not buying items at a more expensive venue (like buying milk or bread at the gas station because you are out)
Tomorrow I’ll let you have a peek at my pantry. Possibly with pictures if I can figure that out

It’s so nice to have a stocked pantry, isn’t it!
I hope you can post pictures. I love seeing them! I’m still trying to figure out how to post them myself as well.
I remember those days of having to bring a snack to school. You are clever to have so much on hand you can just grab a few things. And don’t worry about forgetting. I make lists all the time…and write things on the calendar…and never look at the list or calendar again.
I’d love to see pictures, too!
Oh, and…
