AnonThanks for the info! We just enjoyed 2 of Princess's pizzas at pizza hut today that she won for reading books during the school year.

FB-Wow, what a great set of activities! You are so right, libraries are not just for the kids. We have a pretty small town, with a very small library-but they do a one evening a week program on the lawn each week in July that is awesome (professional storytellers, actors, bell ringers, magicians etc) plus a special teens craft project thing and the reading program. Of course the more metro the area the more going on!

Sounds like you and your kids are going to have a blast this summer! The library where I work part-time has a huge summer reading program, but we also have a ton of other free summer fun. There are free family movies every Thursday evening, aswell as teen and adult summer reading programs with prizes - reading's not just for little kids :) We have a city auditorium with various concerts and performances going on every week all summer - many of which are free. There's another movie night outside in the town commons where everyone just brings a blanket and watches a movie under the stars. There are so many great free activities for the summer - no need to spend big bucks to keep everyone entertained.

Pizza Hut has a "Shake, Rattle, and Read" contest. Kids who read at least five books during the summer can enter for the chance to win prizes, including some book prizes. There doesn't seem to be any requirement or even push to buy pizzas. The link for more info is the following: http://www.bookitprogram.com/shake/default.asp.

When my kids were little, they always looked forward to the book club each summer. They had so much fun with the little crafts, and even got prizes for each book they read. There was always a 'theme.' Free summer entertainment...can't beat it!
