Yesterday I introduced you to the new limited edition Gingerbread Oreos~today I’m going to cook with them!
There are plenty of fun things to do with Oreos–you can make Oreo Cookie Truffles, dip them in white chocolate, or even bake them into cupcakes. All of those would taste delicious with these new Gingerbread Oreos. But I wanted to do something different. But what?
I did what any good blogger would do-I headed over to the Frugal Upstate Facebook Page and asked for advice! I wanted some ideas of what flavors would go well with gingerbread, but I didn’t want to give away yet that I’d be using Gingerbread Oreos.
Chocolate. Orange. Raspberry. Lemon. Rum. Cinnamon. Caramel. Vanilla.
All of those sounded delicious. I decided that you couldn’t go wrong with chocolate. Then I was chatting with my friend Laura of Waughzee’s Wee Wonders and she suggested I create gingerbread brownies, and top them with a whipped cream infused with rum. Or orange. Or both.
Ohhh. Now that sounded GOOD. So I hit the kitchen and created:
Gingerbread Oreo Brownies with Orange Rum Infused Whipped Cream. Drool worthy, I promise you!
Of course you start with your Limited Edition Gingerbread Oreos (of course you COULD use any flavor-just make sure that it isn’t going to clash with the flavors in your whipped cream).
The process was super simple. First I lined my brownie pan with parchment paper (to make them easy to get out). Then I covered the bottom of the pan with Oreos:
I busted open a box of my favorite brownie mix and mixed them up (or you could use a double batch of my Saucepan Brownies). I poured them over the Oreos and baked until done.
Viola! Gingerbread Oreo Brownies.
Next I mixed up some homemade Whipped Cream.
In my clean mixer bowl I combined 1 pint of heavy whipping cream, 1/4 tsp of orange extract, 1 1/2 tsp rum and 1/4 C powdered sugar. I whipped for 3-4 minutes on high until stiff peaks formed.
As easy as that-homemade Orange & Rum Infused Whipped Cream:
Just put a dollop of the whipped cream over the brownies and enjoy.

I am so excited for this. Saw it on TV and immediately wanted it. But outside my budget. Since winter is coming I am back to making beef stew, beef strogonoff and pulled pork in my crock pot. I ususally put that on in the morning before I leave for work but have to brown on the stove in another pan, time consuming and additional clean up. That is why this caught my attention. I love your blob, but I don’t do facebook. Thanks for the offer.

Those look incredible! Thanks for sharing the recipe, Jenn! I’m thinking the flavored whipped cream would be good on any number of things, like pumpkin pie or hot chocolate. Yum.

I was amazed at how easy the whipped cream was to make–and it lasted very well in the fridge for 4 or 5 days–I had always assumed that homemade whipped cream didn’t stay stable for very long. Glad to know I was wrong. Enjoy.
