Recipe: Snow Ice Cream

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on February 25, 2010

Well the kiddos and I are home with a school snow day today, and our county has issued a state of emergency!  So we decided to have some fun together and use one of the ideas from my “40 Things to do on a School Snow Day“.  After an afternoon of shoveling we made some “Snow Ice Cream” as an afternoon treat!

Princess enjoying her snow icecream.

Buddy thought it was the best thing ever.

Snow Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 6C of very clean snow*
  • 1/2 C Sugar
  • 1 C Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • *we used snow that had accumulated on our deck railing

Instructions

  • Put the snow in your biggest bowl.
  • Sprinkle sugar over the top of the snow.
  • Add milk & vanilla and then gently stir until the snow squishes down to about 1/4 of the volume you started with.
  • Once everything seems fully combined, dish into bowls and enjoy immediately!

Thanks – grandkids will be over this afternoon & will enjoy this. Have you ever tried other flavors? I have mint, raspberry & strawberry extracts. I also have almond, anise & rum extracts but don’t think those would go over too well LOL.

We made this too! We’re in Texas, so snow isn’t as common of an occurrence, and is probably more exciting to us than those up north. :) Everyone was passing this recipe around and we really thought it tasted a lot like homemade vanilla ice cream. A lot cheaper, too!
