Walking Tacos for Gametime

January 25, 2015 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 4 Comments

Well football fans, the big game is right around the corner!  and if you are like me, that means an afternoon/evening of family, friends, football and FOOD.

Even if I wasn’t a Walmart Mom I’d be heading out to their store to pick up my gametime supplies.  It really is just the easiest place to pick up everything I need.  Big bags of chips.  30pk of Coors Light.  6pks of soda (or pop if you are from the midwest).  If I’m feeling lazy I can even order wings from the deli.

Walmart not only is a great place to pick up your supplies, it’s also a good resource for gametime recipes.  The Walmart Moms were asked to either make one of the gametime recipes, or to come up with our own take on one.  I thought the Buffalo Chicken Frito Pie looked delicious. . . but not very portable.  For Gametime I personally prefer mobile food–things that are easy to eat sitting on the couch or walking around.  If it has minimal clean up then even better.

That’s why my take on the Buffalo Chicken Frito Pie is a Walking Taco Bar!

The ingredients are your typical taco fixings with one big change–you buy a big bag of the individual serving sized chips instead of taco shells.

Ingredients for Walking Tacos
You can buy just the Fritos, which taste the most like a regular taco, but I decided the Classic Mix from Frito Lay had the best variety for Walking Tacos.  You not only have your Fritos, but Doritos (regular & Cool Ranch), Sun Chips, Crunchy Cheetos and classic Lays Potato Chips.

You can make your own taco meat by browning beef and adding a packet of taco spice–but when I’m entertaining sometimes I just want to keep it simple so I can enjoy my guests.  So I went with chili without beans for the meat and then also supplied kidney beans so folks could choose them or not.

Then each guest simply cracks open their bag of chips and layers in their ingredients:

Chips (crunch them up on the bottom of the bag), Chili, Beans, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, Sour Cream. . . stick in a spoon, mix it up and eat!  When folks are done, just toss the bag in the trash.  No mess!  If you decide to use plastic spoons then you won’t even have utensils to wash.

Walking Tacos are always a big hit.  Expect your guests to eat at least two each–they will want to try different kinds of chips!  And remember–Walmart has everything for your gametime needs.
