It’s time to decorate for the 4th of July and my front door was looking pretty sad:
Walmart had asked me to share an idea for outside decorating, so I headed off to my local store to see what I could find. They had a good variety of inexpensive decorations on a couple of end caps to choose from.
I couldn’t make up my mind so I picked up a couple of red, white and blue tinsel wreaths to try. They were cute, but lacked the visual impact I was looking for, especially when you took a few steps back from the porch. I love my beautiful old wrap around porch, but it pretty much ensures my front door is in shadow 90% of the time.
See that last picture? The wreath barely “reads” from the front lawn. What’s the point of having a decoration if no one can see it? That’s when inspirations struck! What I needed was more impact. . . what I needed was MULTIPLE wreaths. So I took two round wreaths and one star shaped wreath and tied them together with some fishing line I picked up in the sporting goods section at Walmart.
Not sure how to tie fishing line? I wasn’t so I did what any good blogger would do. I looked it up online! I found a nice PDF on fishing knots at “Fish and Boat” and used the simple improved clinch knot. The slightly fiddly bit was getting the distance between the wreaths roughly equal. I just eyeballed it and did my best.
The difference was dramatic:
And from down on the street the wreaths were much more visible!
So for less than $25 at Walmart I wound up with a high impact door decoration just by using multiples. Head on into your store before the 4th of July and pick up some decorations to add a little “Wow” to your front door!
