When it comes to Valentines Day–Brach’s Conversation Hearts are iconic.
I remember getting them back in “the day” at school parties. You’d read them, trade them, and try to figure out if the messages on them actually *meant* something depending on who gave them to you. 🙂 Some people love the way they taste, some people don’t, but still everyone liked getting them. (personally I’m only a fan of the orange and purple ones)
Walmart offered to send me the newest offering in Conversation Hearts from Brach’s–the Create Your Own Large Conversation Hearts!
It sounded intriguing, so I said yes.
When I received my box–inside was a good sized package of their large hearts-totally blank-and a special fine tip pen that writes in red food coloring:
This kit runs about $2.68 and is available at many (although not all) Walmarts.
I decided to have a little fun with the hearts. Since my kids are OBSESSED with the video game Minecraft, I decorated one of the green hearts as a “creeper” and snuck up on them making the “ssss. sssss.” noise from the game. They thought Mama was funny 🙂
Then we divided the hearts up and all got a chance to decorate some. Princess (who is a truly wonderful artist already at age 11) decided to replicate the Brach’s logo–including the cherub (I’m in awe). *note: She used some other edible markers I had from another project for the yellow hair and blue eyes*
Decorating these hearts was a fun (and edible) project for the kiddos. Of course they didn’t want to take turns with the pen (and I had to threaten anyone who mashed down hard and ruined the fine tip–even the large hearts are pretty small-so you need a fine tip to write on them).
It occurs to me that these hearts are even more fun for adults. Let’s face it, I can think of some things that I could write on those hearts for Yankee Bill’s eyes only that would get me a chuckle or a knowing grin on Valentines Day. I can see couples and college kids having quite a good time with these–although this being a family friendly blog I won’t go into those ideas too much–you can use your imagination.
