Review: Purex Complete Crystals Fabric Softener

One of the really fun things about being a Walmart Mom is that I get the opportunity to review some really cool stuff. I’ve got several this week, but the first one is these Purex Complete Crystals.

I have to admit, I usually don’t use fabric softener of any type.  During the summer I line dry, which means none of those little sheets, and I’ve just never been into the liquid stuff-I guess because my mom never used it.  I also am a migraine sufferer, so I keep most stuff pretty scent free.  (I usually breath only through my mouth when I walk through the aisle at the store that has all the laundry products in it-the smell is just overwhelming).

So why did I decide to review fabric softener?

Well, because this is a completely new type of product and I wanted to see what it was like.  Back in January when I attended “Blissdom”-a blogging conference in Nashville TN-I wound up talking with the gentleman at the Purex booth for almost an hour. Yeah, I’m chatty.  We had a wide ranging conversation about their various products and the science behind them.  It turns out Purex is the parent company of one of my most favorite frugal laundry products-20 Mule Team Borax!

But back to the Purex Complete Crystals.  They really are a completely new and different product.  Traditionally fabric softeners have been created in an oil based liquid.

Oil~isn’t that what we are trying to get OUT of our clothes when we wash them?

That oil is the reason that you are not supposed to use fabric softener on children’s PJ’s (the flammability issue),on performance sportswear (because oil messes with the “wicking”) or on towels (it inhibits the absorbency).  Oil is also, well, sticky.  So I can only imagine what that does to dirt that comes into contact with your clothes.

Up close & personal :)

The Purex Complete Crystals have no oil in them.  They are made with 92% natural ingredients and are in the form of crystals (hence the name).  You just toss them in at the beginning of the wash, and that’s it!  They dissolve (even in cold water-I only use cold in my laundry) and “infuse” your clothes with the scent, which lasts far longer than traditional fabric softener scent.

The Crystals come in 3 scents-Fresh Spring Waters (blue), Lavender Blossom (purple) and Tropical Splash (yellow).  They are sold at Walmart and retail for $3.97 for a bottle that does 32 loads.

My favorite scent was the Fresh Spring Waters-it was not as strong as the others, and as I said, I’m not much into scent.  I’ve been using the Purex Complete Crystals for a couple of weeks now and Yankee Bill & the Kids seem to enjoy it.

If you are someone who does use fabric softener, and wants to add a long lasting scent to their clothes, then I would recommend that you give this a try and see what you think.

Just for fun, I also decided (since they sent me 3 full sized bottles-one of each scent) to share the love with a friend.  She took it home and tried them out.  She reported that the scent was good and and seemed to last– her husband even commented on it.  So there!

There is plenty more information about the Crystals over at the Purex Complete Crystals website-the short videos are especially informative.

Purex is on Facebook!  You can “Like” the Purex page and hear about any special deals that may go on. . .like the $1 off coupon they are offering right now!

So have any of you ever tried the Purex Complete Crystals? What did you think?

I bought 2 bottles of these because I had a coupon and they were on sale. I usually use any kind of liquid fabric softener (generic or brand name- on sale and with a coupon). I LOVE these crystals! I’m definitely going to buy them again! I was kind of curious about what they’re made from. Turns out the first ingredient listed on the back is sugar!

I am really sold on these and highly recommend them!

We love the crystals. They are easy to use, smell nice without overpowering, and best of all, they don’t leave random greasy spots on our clothes. I don’t think they leave things quite as soft and static free as some of the liquids we have tried, but that is ok. I’m a convert.

I bought many bottles because I had coupons… but… then I had to buy an HE washer & now they leave a white film on parts of my clothes. I have to rub & rinse again. Disappointing :)

Wow, you are the first to give me that feedback on it’s performance in an HE washer. (I don’t have one) I’ll forward your comment on to my point of contact. . .

I dont think I would want to use this product if first ingredent is sugar after awhile dont you think bugs will be in the clothes? I know everyone wants to go green but I dont want bugs all over eating away at my clothes.
