Walmart asked me again this month to take a look at their Summer Fashion in store. Now I’ve already talked about some of the Women’s offerings, and I’ve outfitted Buddy in some fun things, so I decided to take a look at what they had in the menswear department.
Yankee Bill works in a state office, so during the week he’s in dress pants with a shirt and tie. In his off hours he basically has two modes, either jeans and a T-shirt or full on biker:
I thought it was time to update his casual summer clothes–get him a few things that could be used for “casual Friday” at work, summer church services, or date night.
When I got to the Men’s section at Walmart I was excited to see that they had quite a few options in the moisture wicking fabric that Buddy loves so much. When this stuff first came out several years ago it had a very polyester feel to me, looked pretty shiny most of the time and was a bit pricey. The technology has improved, and the price has dropped considerably. Our store had “Stay Dry” type polos in both the Faded Glory brand and Ben Hogan.
Yankee Bill has only a few of the moisture wicking shirts, but they are favorites, so I knew he’d be thrilled to get these polos. Most of the activities he truly enjoys are outdoors–the man hates being cooped up inside (our gray and blah Upstate New York winters are actually pretty tough for him). These shirts are light and breezy and make spending the day outside extremely comfortable while keeping him looking sharp.
For shorts I wanted something a bit dressier than sportswear or jeans, so the cargo shorts style were great. They came in quite a few shades and a couple of different lengths–at just over 50 I figured Yankee Bill would prefer something a bit on the longer side and went with the knee length cargos. I think he’s got nice legs, but that doesn’t mean I want to share them with the world 🙂
There were several really nice solid shades to choose from, so I texted Yankee Bill from the store and he picked the Ben Hogan red performance polo, it looks nice here with the black Wrangler cargo shorts.
I thought this Ben Hogan Performance Polo Argyle Stripe was classy–and it looks great with the khaki cargo shorts. It could also be paired with a pair of regular khakis to wear to work for casual Friday. That’s our dog Summer posing in the photo with him. She’s a sweetie and loves him no matter what he’s wearing!
The Ben Hogan 3 color stripe performance polo is pretty classic and looks a bit more dressy with deep black cargo shorts. I’d be happy to take this handsome guy to a movie or dinner dressed like that.
My favorite shirt is this Ben Hogan Block Polo. I don’t know why–I just love how it looks!
While I know that there are guys out there that are into “cutting edge”, my guy is pretty classic and easygoing. These apparel options from Walmart expand his wardrobe while keeping it within his comfort zone. Take a look at the Mens Apparel in Walmart next time you are in the store–and look for the tags and stickers denoting the Stay Dri or “performance” fabric!

Lookin’ good, Yankee Bill! I’m partial to the Hogan polo too. It’d make a great golf shirt. Can’t believe it’s only $10 and some change!
