Who doesn’t like S’mores? Hot gooey marshmallows. Melting chocolate. The crunch of a graham cracker. Mmmmm.
Walmart asked me to make and photograph a creative interpretation of the classic s’mores recipe. The field was wide open. I decided I had to do something fun. Something different. Something pin-able
Now I’m quite familiar with all the different flavors of marshmallows out there. I buy marshmallows frequently during the school year to include in the kids lunches-it’s a simple sweet treat that actually isn’t all that high in sugar. . . well as long as you only eat a few! So I knew that I wanted to use some of the fun flavors in my S’mores.
I headed off to my local Walmart to see what inspiration hit me. I grabbed a bag of the Kraft Jet Puffed marshmallows in strawberry and toasted coconut. That’s when inspiration hit! What if I used WHITE CHOCOLATE!
And thus the Strawberry Cream S’more was born:
I started out with a basic S’mores kit that the lovely folks at Hershey’s had sent me-Chocolate Bars, HoneyMaid Graham Crackers and regular marshmallows–and I added the Strawberry Jet Puffed marshmallows, the Jet Puffed Toasted Coconut marshmallows and the Hershey’s Cookies and Cream bars.
I was just going to pull out a candle and use that to “toast” the marshmallows so I could take a picture. . . but the kids gave their father big puppy dog eyes and he pulled out the firepit (and drove down to the gas station to buy wood) so we could have a REAL fire. Everyone made their own creations (Princess in particular loved the Toasted Coconut with regular Hershey bar)
I however concentrated on my new idea. Regular graham cracker, Strawberry Marshmallow and Cookies and Cream bar:
Although the fire was still a bit high (honestly, the best for toasting marshmallows is just glowing coals not flames) I borrowed a stick from the kiddos and proceeded to roast:
The result? Gooey and sweet! If you like the taste of white chocolate you will like this. The strawberry taste, honestly, is just barely there. I would cut the Cookies and Cream bar down to just 1 or 2 squares next time, not 3. The white chocolate taste did overwhelm the strawberry marshmallow a bit too much.
These would be great for a “girly” themed party–regular s’mores do seem to be a bit masculine somehow (although delicious!) It would also taste great to try this combination with some of those chocolate graham crackers.

This twist on the classic smore recipe sounds great to me….and not “girly” at all. I’m secure enough in my manhood to eat a pink smore – LOL. I also like to substitute a Reese’s peanut butter cup for the chocolate – also delicious!
You’re making me hungry! I want a creative S’more now. I’ve heard of people modifying their S’mores before, but I’ve never heard about using white chocolate. Yum!
