Walmart Father’s Day Gift Challenge

by Jenn @ Frugal Upstate on June 18, 2011

The Walmart Challenge for Father’s Day was “What fantastic gift can you find Dad for $30 at Walmart?”.

Well, as much as I love Yankee Bill he’s my husband, not my Dad.  My Dad lives in Maine, so we don’t exchange gifts.  The people in the house who had to be worried about Father’s Day gifts were Buddy and Princess. . . so I turned this challenge over to them.  Fair is fair, so the money got split evenly-$15 each.

After the inevitable questions were answered (“If we spend less than $15 do we get to keep the change?” “Uh, no.” “Just checking”) we hit Walmart.

Buddy wanted to get Papa a movie to watch, so we went back and perused the titles.  With a little prompting from me he decided that a Chuck Norris 3 pack for $5 would be a great idea.  After that he insisted we buy Oreos.  I rarely buy cookies for the house so it has become a tradition that at every holiday Yankee Bill gets a package of Double Stuff Oreos that he gets to eat completely by himself without having to share with anyone.  We had plenty of money left so he decided to really splurge and get the Berry Burst Icecream Oreos as well.  Still short, so we added in the Wasabi & Soy Almonds by Blue Diamond to bring it in just under $15.

I see a movie and snack extravaganza in our future.

Princess, being the little fashionista that she is, headed straight for the clothing aisle.  She thought this “Hawaiian” shirt featuring beer was hilarious and just had to have it for $9.99.  That left $5, so I suggested that we wander over to the camping and hunting section and see what we could find.  These nifty waterproof boxes for cell phones jumped out at us.  After checking to make sure Mama’s iPhone fit inside (because if my phone fit then Yankee Bill’s phone would fit) she choose it.  At $5 it brought her total right up to $15.

So there you have it, a plethora of heartfelt Father’s Day gifts for a grand total of $30.

What are you doing for Father’s Day this year?

The kid’s gifts are great ! With the gifts and the feast you are planning, Yankee Bill is a lucky guy! Papa bear has to work so it won’t be anything special this year. He has a sweet tooth, so I’m thinking I’ll make him chocolate chip pancakes before he goes to work. While he is at work. I’m going to make a cheescake. His birthday is soon and Im going to make your carrotcake then as he LOVES carrotcake !!!
