I love trying new stuff. As a Walmart Mom I frequently get the opportunity to check out new products and give my feedback. Recently Walmart asked if I’d like to take part in a series to explore some of the new products they are rolling out in stores. How fun is that? Of course I said yes! For the month of March here’s some of the new items I tried:
Terry Ho’s Yum Yum Sauce — Panera Balsamic Vinigrette Dressing — Sea Fare Pacific Seafood Bisque — Pasta Gourmet Italia Space Adventure Pasta — Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk — Kraft Classic Ranch Dressing Squeezy — Jif Peanut Granola Butter Bars
This stuff is so new to the store that I couldn’t find it on the Walmart.com website yet (well except for the Yum Yum Sauce and Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk–but those were only in cases of 12). Here are a few thoughts:
The Kraft Squeezy would be very useful for something like a picnic where you need to dress a few salads, but don’t want to deal with the whole bottle or worry about trying to refrigerate it after opening–just open the 3.2 fl oz package, use it and toss it. It’s more than I’d use on a single lunch though.
The Jif Bars were pretty tasty. Buddy doesn’t like granola type bars as a rule, but after a couple of bites he told me “I really like these, they are the best bars I’ve ever tried”.
The Pasta Gourmet Italia is pretty cool stuff; 100% all Natural, GMO free, no added salt or sugar, and the colors are made with tomatoes and spinach not dyes. Plus the little space shapes are cute.
The Seafood Bisque was tasty and upscale–more like the soup you’d get at a high end restaurant. Princess stole that one for lunch but I manage to snag a taste.
If you like Panera Bread’s Balsamic Vinagrette you are in luck, because now you can buy it in a bottle and bring it home to use on your own salads.
Thai Kitchen is a trusted name in Asia type food products–so it’s nice to see their coconut milk available. I haven’t tried it–I was going to try make Coconut Milk Rice Pudding, but Tina at Mommy’s Kitchen beat me to it. I’ll try it soon either in rice pudding or a curry.
Part of the deal with the new product testing was to use a few of the products together in a recipe. Since spring is here and good weather on the horizon (although far from a sure thing here in Upstate NY) I was thinking about summer cookouts and potlucks. That’s the kind of entertaining we do Upstate! I had tasted the Yum Yum Sauce with a spoon and thought “Gee, this would be great in a pasta salad!”
This is an easy recipe because the Yum Yum Sauce is the sauce–you don’t have to mix a bunch of stuff together or add anything other than salt and pepper for seasonings (although if you want to add more by all means make it your own). Just boil the Gourmet Pasta Italia pasta, toss the vegetables and sauce together with it and you’ve got a pasta salad. Yum!
Yum Yum Pasta Salad
- 8 oz Pasta
- 1 C Yum Yum Sauce
- 1 C Celery thinly sliced
- 1 C Frozen or fresh peas defrosted
- 1/4 C Onion chopped
- Salt &; Pepper
In a large pot cook pasta until done but not mushy. Cool Completely.
Mix celery, peas and onion in with the pasta in a large bowl.
Pour Yum Yum sauce over the pasta salad and gently mix together to completely coat the vegetables and pasta.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Chill until ready to serve.
