Beef or Venison Hungarian Goulash for the Crockpot


  • 2 LB Beef or Venison
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Clove Garlic
  • 1/2 C Ketchup
  • 2 TBS Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 TBS Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 C Water
  • 1/4 C Flour


  1. Cut Beef or Venison into 1 inch cubes and place in the bottom of the crockpot
  2. Slice onion and lay on top of meat.
  3. Mince garlic & combine with ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, paprika, mustard powder & water. Pour over meat & onion.
  4. Cook on LOW for 8-10 hrs
  5. Dissolve flour in 1/4 C cold water and stir into Goulash.
  6. Cook on HIGH for an additional 15 min to thicken.


  1. Use Pork or Chicken instead of Beef or Venison.
  2. Add a couple of slices of bacon, diced. Mmm.
  3. Add sliced sweet peppers and/or chunks of carrot on top of the onion layer (as in the photo).
  4. Use 1TBS prepared mustard instead of mustard powder.
  5. Thicken with 2TBS Cornstarch dissolved in cold water instead of flour.
  6. Use 1TBS molasses or white sugar instead of brown sugar.
  7. Serve over rice instead of noodles.
  8. Eat plain as a stew instead of over anything.
