You know, I have a girlfriend who SWEARS I’m Martha Stewart.
Really, I’m not. I mean yes, I do have a few more “Martha” habits, like baking bread, and making preserves. I even come up with some great and useful tips from time to time. But I don’t have that eye (and unlimited budget) for making everything perfect and beautiful.
As a matter of fact, I don’t even read Martha Stewart’s “Living” because it stresses me out. There are just too many ideas to try, and I know that I’ll never get to all of them. Plus many of her projects seem to require unusual (or expensive) supplies.
All that being said, I do love the craft projects on her website. Especially the free printables. I love when you can get something wonderful and classy looking for free!
For Halloween they have a bunch of projects, ideas and printables. My favorites are these really cool little printable Halloween candy treat boxes. Although Martha suggests using them to hand out your candy to trick ‘o treaters (yeah, right, we get over 200), I think they’d be cute if you get guilted into sending treats in to your youngster’s class. After all, even cheap candy or homemade cookies/caramel corn will appear to be extra special in it!
The Edward Gorey-esqu printable Halloween wine labels (Murky Merlot and Queasy Reisling) would turn a basic bottle of wine into a great hostess gift!
And there is a whole slew of great creepy silhouette templates-mice climbing up stairs, bats, witches.
Ahh, I just love free printables!

Totally agree that Martha\’s ideas are way to expensive and require strange things.
I recently saw an idea I wanted to share — using old TP rolls to hold candy. (Maybe spray them with lysol first?) Wrap with paper, tie up the ends. Voila!

Great tip.
Plus, love what you said about not reading Martha Stewart Living because it stresses you out.
I still have a subscription, but I feel that way. It’s like an exercise in inadequacy to read it. On my best days, I can cull ideas without feeling like a total failure.

I love Martha! Almost all of our Halloween decorations are from Living. We’ve used the black paper mice in the past. I’ll pull them out again if we have a Halloween party.
I’m just the opposite about her magazine. I love it so much that a few years ago, I bought a ton of back issues on Ebay. I keep them in magazine file boxes in my craft room. I’ve had projects not look interesting to me at the time I first saw them, but then I go back later and want to try them.

Isn’t it great that so many folks have such different viewpoints? Like I said, too much martha can make me feel inadequate, but she does have some keepers 🙂
