Hosting a Lego Birthday Party

So Buddy had his birthday several weeks ago.  And we still haven’t had his party.

Now, I’m not the worst mother ever, I promise.  I baked him cupcakes to take into camp and share with his group, we took him out on the mandatory birthday dinner (without his sister!) at the Hibachi steakhouse (Look mom, it’s a flaming onion volcano! Cool!), and we did his family birthday party where he got all of his gifts from Yankee Bill, Princess, Nana & I.

But the friend party? Well that sort of fell off the radar.

So I finally got off my, um, haunches shall we say, and we threw together plans for a party last week.  To happen tomorrow.

That’s right, I gave myself 7 days. What am I, crazy?

Anyway. . .

Buddy decided he wanted a Lego theme for his party.

This is the image we used for the cards-Buddy & Princess built a Lego Jail. Not quite sure why-it isn't very Birthday. But hey-it kept them occupied for a whole afternoon.

After a bit of Googling I found some great ideas for Lego Parties.  Most notably the idea Meredith at Like Merchant Ships had for making Lego Invites, and the idea from Creative Party & Gift Ideas for making a Lego Gift Bag (actually there are a lot of great ideas there).

I’ve made a Lego Cake before, and asked Buddy if that is what he wanted me to make this time-but actually he wanted me to make a plain white cake and then to put his own Lego creation on top as a decoration.  Fine with me-it will be easier to frost!

The party is going to offer pizza (homemade, cut in squares, with pepperoni to look like legos), cake, then the sprinkler, slip & slide, and water balloons outside for fun. Whee!

So I’m off to bake cakes, make treat bags and get things together-I’ll be taking pictures and giving a full rundown by the end of the week!

Of course if you have any quick and easy fabulous Lego Birthday ideas, let me know.

Here’s something else that might fit your Lego theme:

We just had a Lego Birthday party for my 6 year old a few weeks ago. A few games we did that were big hits…put some lego bricks in a bowl and have another empty bowl next to it (one set for each child)then give the kids a set of chopsticks. We set a timer and see how many lego bricks they could pick up with the chopsticks and put into the other bowl. It was fun! The other thing we did was a relay race with the parents at one side of the yard with a small spoon and the children lined up at the other end of the yard with a larger spoon and I put some legos on the chidlrens spoons and they had to run down and transfer the legos from their spoon to the parents and then the parents had to run back. It was funny! The last game we did..I had a glass canning jar put on the ground, the kids had to drop bricks into the jar holding the legos to their nose and then drop them, harder than it looked.

besides the games I had a “creation station” set up with some duplo bricks for the little ones. I used our train table which was a good height for the little ones.

Hard to find lego decorations. I used bags that we had gotten from Lego store purchases and put them around along with primary color balloons.

For favors I had purchased Lego round (large) stickers on ebay and put them on clear small plastic bags. I put a handful of Legos in each with a tip card (I got at our Lego Store).

My girlfriend did the cake and it was great!

Good luck and have fun! Happy Birthday!

How fun! My grandsons are ALL extreme LEGOs fans! They have a ton and always love a new Legos Toys Set for birthday and Christmas gifts. I’ll have to send this link to their mom, along with tweeting it. Thanks for the great ideas.

I do not know whether it’s just me or if perhaps everybody else encountering problems with your blog. It looks like some of the text within your posts are running off the screen. Can somebody else please provide feedback and let me know if this is happening to them as well? This could be a issue with my browser because I’ve had this happen before.
