Why I Love Consumable Christmas Gifts

My absolute favorite thing to give people for Christmas is food.

This is for several reasons:

#1 I just love food, especially yummy treat type foods

#2 Since they are consumable, even someone short on space or trying to scale back on “things” will enjoy it

#3 You don’t have to worry about it going with someones decor, or being something they will actually use

#4 If you happen to give them something they are not fond of (I have one friend who doesn’t like chocolate! How weird is that?) they can share it with the rest of the family, or bring it in to work or school to be appreciated by everyone. They even regift it, as long as they do it fast 🙂

#5 Most people appreciate homemade treats, not only for what it is, but also for the effort they know it takes to make them (which is not always the case for handicrafts such as knitting etc)

#6 It can be very frugal, depending on what you make. You can buy basic, inexpensive ingredients and make some very classy things, like my Biscotti recipe.

Tune in tomorrow to see what some of my good old standby’s are, and what new things I’d like to try.

I like the homemade treats that are already made best, as opposed to something like cookies in a jar that requires me to do work 😉

But now I’m craving rice krispie treats for some reason.

Very few things please me more than a container full of cookies. And my family has been using the same cookie tins to store things for 20 years. If I were gifting, I’d probably get some holiday-colored Gladware or somesuch.

I love everything you make and send, but it is awful mean of you to be sabotaging my diet that way!!! The candied citrus rinds are my favorite. I think they lasted, oh, about a day last year! (I must have gotten less than everyone else).

I’ve been lurking around your site on occasion and just love it. I never thought of these as reasons for givivg food for gifts, but they really make sense. Once a neighbor brought me over a paper plate of sugar cookies decorated with green and red sprinkles and I really enjoyed this. Also at ny sons karate class one of the instructors made awesome peanut brittle and his wife wrapped it into cute little homemade bags. I just gushed over this and she said they do it every year.
