Happy Earth Day everyone! To celebrate here’s a roundup of “Earth Friendly” projects and ideas from Frugal Upstate!
These are some of my favorite projects and posts throughout the years that emphasize the “reduce, recycle, reuse” philosophy.
First up is the recycled compost bucket made out of a “dishwasher detergent pod” bucket. I love when I can save something sturdy from the trash and give it a new life!
Speaking of composting, it’s one of my favorite ways to reduce waste and be kind to the Earth, specifically the piece of earth that I have my garden on! Here’s an article on composting and having a leaf mold bin.
Gardening season is coming up, and with pots and planters comes the issue of watering. Here’s a fun idea for reusing old wine bottles and keeping your plants hydrated at the same time.
On a more beautiful note these coiled paper bowls are made out of old catalogs and magazine pages. That’s really making something from nothing!
Another great way to give new life to old magazines is with my rolled paper beads. They take a little while to make but cost almost nothing and look lovely, if I do say so myself.
These decorative folded books are made from novels not worth keeping–what a fun way to recycle!
Sometimes being kind to the Earth isn’t about making something, but more about fixing something instead of replacing it. Like repainting my wicker every year to keep it fresh.
Or mending clothes instead of tossing them out and buying new.
Finally, thinking ahead to next Christmas, you can make these punched tin ornaments from old canning jar lids or juice can tops!
