It’s amazing what this family grows in their urban back yard! They also use solar power for their home. . . wow.

Amazing. I shared this. Thank you for posting it. I only wish our family could even do half of what they do.

I know-they work hard but they get an incredible return out of their space!

Thank you so much for posting about this amazing family! They work hard, and they are such truly kind people, too. I have been following them for years and got into Bollywood movies after Anais wrote about their “Bollywood Movie Nights.” She even sent me a list of her “be sure to watch these” favorites! I so wish I could live like they do! Their websites: http://urbanhomestead.org/ and http://www.peddlerswagon.com/

I am not sure if I could live that lifestyle but it was certainly interesting! I think if our society could make simple changes, everyone doing one thing makes a big difference,. i remember hanging up my clothes to dry and what a difference it was in cost and the quality of my clothes (not being cooked in a dryer) made, plus the environment I am sure benefits. Little changes can make big impacts.

Unfortunately, the Dervaes family has claimed to have trademarked the phrase “urban homesteading” and “urban homestead.” And they are sending cease and desist letters to others who have been using these phrases for years.

I certainly can understand wanting to protect something you invented but this is crazy.

Here’s one link to a news article on the subject but just web search on their last name and the word ‘lawsuit’ and you get a look at quite another side of their lifestyle. It’s a real disappointment when someone takes the idea of supporting their family to such an extreme.
