Don’t forget to head on over to Frugal Coast2Coast tonight for our show “Frugal Kitchen Tips“. There are tons of ways to save money in the kitchen, so it should be a fun show!

If you miss it, don’t forget you can either listen to it on demand or download it as an MP3 file to be played on any MP3 player or computer!

By the way, what do you think of our Snazzy new logo? We wanted something that was bright and stood out. . . I think we got what we asked for! This logo will be used on Blog Talk Radio and also on the soon to be made public “Frugal Coast2Coast” webpage.

Just listened to the podcast. Lots of good ideas. One “quibble”… part skim mozzerella cheese is a healthy choice- not junk. One tip…. when my kids were little(they are now in their 20’s,) they learned to pack their lunches at an early age (with mom’s supervision.) I made a chart with 3 columns- proteins, bread and starches, fruits and veggies. They chose one item from each column each day. For example, tuna fish, pretzels, apple. Or tortilla, peanut butter, carrots. They could always have more than one fruit or veggie, but at least there was a minimum. In this way they were learning some menu planning skills. Of course there were times when I presented options such as a leftover slice of pizza or dinner or even pancakes with pb. But at least this way I knew that they would eat their lunch. Purchasing school lunches was fairly expensive, but I allowed them to choose 4 school lunches a month. We received the menu for the entire month. Together we’d read the menu and they would circle their choices and the menu would be posted on the fridge. Sometimes they would only want the school lunch once a month. But this way they could sample what the other kids were eating and see what it was all about. However, they usually preferred lunch from home.

These days make a stack of pb sandwiches (usually 5-6 sandwiches) and put them in the freezer. I grab one and a piece of fruit when I don’t have enough time to make myself a lunch. This has saved me many trip to a fast food place.

    Keep up the good work.

Sharyn-great ideas! The teaching plan for children should be commercially marketed!
I never thought about freezing a stack of PB & J sandwiches for grabbing a quick, healthy lunch. I will be implementing that idea soon (I use soybutter).
Jenn- I really like the new logo. It is right on the mark. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the webpage.
