One of the mysteries of life is this. Why do hot dogs come in 12 packs, and hot dog buns come in 8 packs? You either wind up with 4 bunless dogs, or you buy two packages of buns and wind up with 4 left over. What a wonky system. I usually err on the side of too many buns rather than too few, and that means leftover hotdog buns!
Hotdog rolls are basically just bread in a different shape, so there are many ways you can “Use it Up” with the spare rolls. One of my favorites is to make breadsticks to go alongside soup. It’s easy–you just pull apart the bun into two halves, spread each lightly with butter (or homemade pesto, or garlic butter–you get the idea) and then toast them under the broiler for a few minutes. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn!
Simple and tasty–plus they fit better then regular toast on the plate next to your soup mug.

If cut in half, they would also made quick slidder rolls.
Good use of leftover buns.
