Since this Monday was Presidents Day, I thought I’d share a bit of vintage presidential fun. Of course I couldn’t find a vintage film on Presidents Day, as prior to 1971 there was no such day–it was Washington’s Birthday and Lincoln’s Birthday as two separate days celebrated in February.
This is a quick (1 1/2 minute), soundless film showing some of the blasting that created President Washington’s face on the Mount Rushmore memorial:
Kind of cool, eh? It’s amazing what they did with the technology of the time. It took from 1927 to 1941 to complete the sculpture. Wow.
