Sometimes a review opportunity comes along at just the right time.
My vacuum is dying. I mean really dying. I’ve been considering buying a new one-but of course being a frugal gal I am at loathe to buy something new when the old one is still working-albeit poorly. Of course the fact that I typically wait until it is completely unavoidable before I vacuum doesn’t help matters.
So when Eureka offered me the opportunity to review their new Airspeed, I jumped it.
Eureka recently released to the market the Eureka AirSpeed. This vacuum sells exclusively to Walmart for $119.96 (check out the videos-they are actually pretty cool). This is a bag less vacuum with the following features:
* HEPA filter removes up to 99.97 percent of all allergens for cleaner home
* Turbo powered stair and upholstery brush removes dust, allergens and pet dander from upholstery backs and stair risers
* No tools required for assembly
* Upholstery and dusting brush, extension wand and crevice tool
* 27′ power cord with easy cord release
* Flip bottom dust cup for easy emptying
This vacuum worked well. They claim it works as well as the Dyson-I don’t know about that personally, but several other bloggers I know who reviewed it and actually *have* a Dyson have told me that the suction is as good (or better) with the Eureka Airspeed, but that the maneuverability-while good-is not as excellent as the Dyson. On the other hand at $119.96, the Eureka is 1/3 the price. Now that’s frugal!
There are several things I really liked about the Airspeed:
1-I like that there is an actual attachments setting-that means that there is no suction on the attachment hose until you turn it on-so for your regular vacuuming all the “sucking” power is on your floor!
2-I like that it is bagless. I hate the idea of buying bags all the time. Ick. Frugal gals love things that can be reusued over and over.
3-I like that the filters are washable. Although they will eventually have to be replaced, the unit comes with a special brush to clean the filter and they tell you upfront that you can wash it with water. Love that! Just make sure it’s totally dry before you use it again!
4-I like the power brush attachment. Not only does the rotating brush part really seem to work (on some vacuums that function is pretty anemic) but the suction is really good. I used it to vacuum my stairs and it did a great job.
5-I really liked that the power brush attaches to the main unit with a magnet. That was just too cool-instead of having to snap the dang thing in there and then having it fall off every time I bumped into something (which happens with my dying one) as soon as it got close enough it attached itself. Love that.
So now comes the fun part! How would you like to win your very own Eureka Airspeed?

I love the new layout it is beautiful! I added you to facebook.

My biggest challenge with vacuuming is my vacuum itself. It seems to constantly be plugged up with “stuff”.
Thanks!

I am already a subscriber with my Google Reader.
I am now a follower on your Facebook page too.
Thanks for a great blog, by the way! I have gotten so many great tips here 🙂
My biggest challenge is having uncluttered floors to vacuum! Seems like as I go from room to room, the kids are ahead of me making a mess 🙂
I’m following EurekaClean on Twitter.

My biggest challenge with vacuuming is the vacuum itself. I am actually using a hand-me-down Electrolux canister vacuum which I’m sure was the cream of the crop…25 years ago! I hate that I have to buy bags for it and I have NO attachments! I am reluctant to spend a lot of money on a new vacuum, but now that I have a baby starting to crawl I think I need something with more cleaning power. 🙂
My biggest challenge is my son’s toys…they are everywhere! It’s so hard to vacuum and then I need to move all the toys around because my vacuum is so big that I can’t squeeze it into all the little corners.
my vacuum gets plugged too quickly, and then looses suction

My biggest challenge while vacumming is avoiding all the wires and cords in our house. *sigh*
I subscribe to Frugal Upstate! 🙂
I just liked you on facebook. 🙂

I have several different rugs over our wood flooring and it is challenging going from the rug to the floor! This results in the vaccum sucking part of the rug up and me wrestling it out if I forget to change settings. Also challenging are the cleaning opportunities presented by having three year twin tornadoes!! 🙂

I also “liked” your facebook page! 🙂 Glad to see Frugal Upstate on FB and I look forward to seeing your updates.
My biggest vacuuming challenge is that my vacuum does not work well at all, and it’s hard to maneuver – yuck!

Oh would this be a blessing! Our vacuum is also dying a slow, horrible death right now. We NEED a new one, but we are also frugal and are avoiding it. And my husband wants a Dyson, but I have a hard time thinking about spending that much on a vacuum. Really, we’d have to have it about 30 years to come out even to what this one did in its shorter life. Hared to imagine that would happen!
So, my challenge is actually getting my vacuum to clean up anything as it gasps its final breathes!

And I’ve been with you for a long, long time now! 🙂 Since before I even knew what subscribing or following or a Google Reader was…

My biggest vacuuming challenge is cat hair. How does it manage to get even in places that the cats don’t go?
Also, I subscribe via Google Reader.
My biggest vacuuming challenge is that my vacuum will not handle vacuuming big things like cheerios or popcorn kernals. I have to do a lot of hand work before I vacuum.
The stairs. I really hate vacuuming the stairs. I usually use the vacuum as if it was on the floor, but that doesn’t get the crease. My husband uses the hose and attachment, but I don’t really feel it get it clean enough without a beater bar.
How easy is it to take apart and clean the beater bar? Our household has two long haired adults and a cat, so I have to clean the bar every 2-3 uses, so I am VERY interested in that part of maintenance. Way moreso than bags and filters!
Would love to win a sweeper. A couple years ago we bought the Consumer Reports #1 pick for a vacuum — a Kenmore — and the suction sucks (pun intended). I swore that from now on we only go with personal recommendations!
PS I get your updates on the sidebar of my blog — is that subscribing? I’m sorry — I really have no idea. 😉
My biggest vacuuming challenge is that we live in a split-level, so I have to drag the vacuum cleaner up and down several sets of stairs to get the whole house done.

I have a long haired dog, a Sheltie. It seems like I vacuum atleast 3times a week. I’ve struggled with shelling out a ton of $$ for a dyson– but can’t. Having a new vacuum would be a blessing.
