Even though barely more than a week ago it looked like this:
Today spring is in the air in Upstate New York! I look all around and see those little “signs of spring”
At first it doesn’t look like much is happening near my front porch-but look a little closer. . .
My snowdrops are up and nodding their little heads!
The little green tips of the crocus that grow near my kitchen steps are starting to appear-soon I’ll have little purple and yellow flowers to brighten my day.
The red buds of my rhubarb are just starting to poke through the mulch of compost I put down in the fall-I just can’t wait until they are big enough to eat! I’m a sucker for the sour pucker of rhubarb!
The forsythia buds are out-and I’m wondering if I should cut some branches and force some indoors for an extra early burst of yellow!
The lilacs are also starting to bud. The season has been so mild that we may just miss that “killing frost” that keeps me from having lilacs so many years.
It’s warm enough that I can get my laundry out on the line again-even if there is frost in the mornings!
And a final sign of the true arrival of spring:
Yankee Bill has had the motorcycle out to ride! By the way-notice that backrest there on the very back? That was my Valentines Day gift-so that I can take the long rides with him (it’s killer to ride on the back without footpegs or a backrest-and now I have both!)
What sings of spring are happening near you?

We had our signs of spring and an almost 60° day last week. Right now it’s 34° and snowing.
