Well, I just realized that yesterday was my 200th post! I have to make a bit of a deal about this because I totally missed my 100th post. There is a sort of lose blogger tradition of doing the “100 things about me” meme for your 100th post. Since I blew that, I’ll do it for my 200th (or actually my 201!)
First off, for those of you who are not familiar, a Meme is defined on the blogosphere as :
“an idea, project, statement or even a question that is posted by one blog and responded to by other blogs. Although the term encompasses much of the natural flow of communication in the Blogosphere, there are active bloggers and blog sites that are dedicated to the creation of memes on a regular basis.”
The term was coined by Richard Dawkins in the book “The Selfish Gene” his definition (scroll down to Meme) was
“a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation.” “Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches. Just as genes propagate themselves in the gene pool by leaping from body to body via sperms or eggs, so memes propagate themselves in the meme pool by leaping from brain to brain via a process which, in the broad sense, can be called imitation. …”

86. I half wish magic were true, but if it was all the creepy and bad stuff would be true to, so the other half of me is glad it isn’t.

88. I’m a jack of all trades, master of none. I just have too many interests-I want to learn a little about everything. I often think that if I were born in an earlier time where I didn’t have as many options I would have been able to pick one thing to be passionate about.
89. I’ve realized recently that you can’t have it all-the idea that a woman can do it all is a faulty bill of goods we were sold by the women’s liberation movement. When you try to do it all you wind up not doing any of it very well. Sometimes you have to give something up for the present (like career fulfillment) to do something you feel is important (like raising your kids) well.

91. I’ve parasailed.

93. I would never ever ever bungee jump.
94. I don’t like rollercoasters.

96. My dad used to cut my hair when I was a child. In a bowl cut. Enough said.
97. I have vivid memories of playing with my older sister’s Charlie’s Angels dolls.
98. I spent a lot of one summer when I was about 10 making a fake “journal” that was supposedly from a girl who used to live in our house, and I was going to plant it in the barn and try to convince my younger sisters and brother that it was real. A lot of the beginning consisted of poems I copied out of the Lord of the Rings. I never did get around to going through with it though. (but I have the journal somewhere)
99. I write poetry, but only when I’m really sad, troubled or full of angst, so I haven’t written any in over 10 years. Some of it is good, but a lot of it from high school is pretty contrived.
100. This is the first Blog meme I’ve ever done.

Wow, you’ve had an interesting life, and you’re still young. You’ve been so many places!
I’m also 5’2″ tall. Alas, I’m about 30 pounds overweight.
Also have hazel/green eyes and fairish skin. (It’s the Irish thing, LOL!) My hair color…whatever I pick up off the shelf. Pre-gray, it was dark brown.
I’m also an alto, but I hate country music. Anchovies…yuck. Black licorice…yum. Except the last piece I ate…I pulled out one of my crowns.
Oh, man…I coveted that Easy Bake Oven and Sno-Cone machine, too! (BTW–you can get sno-cone machines at Target, except they are probably out of season now.)
I also talk a lot–maybe too much. And I tend to talk too fast!
British Comedies–did you ever see the “Blackadder” series? Hugh Laurie, of “House” fame, was a frequent player in that.
#59–totally agree! What’s up with K-Mart pushing Christmas in August?
#62 and #73–more agreement!
#81–we have a platform water bed, but even at age 50 I’d never let an arm or leg dangle over the edge of the bed. You never know…
96. Oh, GOSH! Your dad cut your hair in a bowl cut!!! My father did that to me, too! Aaaggh! I can remember when I was about 13 and I asked my mother, “can I please let my hair grow out?” It was the best moment when she said, ‘well, sure!’
Wow…I really enjoyed reading your meme!
Hehee. I sometimes still think I have dark hair, fair skin, and hazel eyes.
Have you ever been to Washington (state)? If you haven’t and you decide to come out, perhaps we can go shopping, see a show, or … ?
I keep learning more and more about my children–it makes me love them more and more! Dad.
40. I never watch horror movies-freaks me out too much.
Me neither, but amazingly I can tell you the storylines to most horror movies based on everyone around me talking about it at sometime or another.
I like the horror movies of the past, and some of the new ones. I hate ones with stupid characters (like people who go to investigate scary noises when they KNOW there’s a killer around) or violence that’s just there to show off fancy F/X. I also hate it when I can guess the ending 10 minutes into the movie (I think I had “Dark Water” figured out within 5 minutes. ZZZZZ!)
You’re cracking me UP!!! I never knew about a fake journal you made!
How about the time you fell on me in the closet!? huh?? You forgot that very important part of history 😉
I can’t believe you remember the hand slamming in the door… we were what 7??
This meme was great… a lot of funny memories, I too knew there was something in the closets and under the bed, but that is what comes from livng in a big old house built in 1800’s.
Thanks, for this 🙂
Rebecca-If I ever make it out that way I’d love to visit! It would be fun.
Glad to know I’m not the only one freaked out by horror movies, subjected to a bowl cut (still love you though Dad!) or scared of things under the bed 🙂 Or at least if I’m odd, I’m in good company.
Amanda-I’ll have to show you the journal sometime if I can find it. I was going to hide it in the barn and pretend I found it. Ted may have known about it, I can’t remember. And yes, I remember the hand thing-we were outside of what used to be a butcher shop in Brewer. If I was 7, you were only 5 🙂 but pain has a way of making you remember things. .. . as a parent now I can realize how much of a heart attack mom must have been having at the time. . .
I’m thrilled to be one of the four people from college you still keep in touch with!
You brought back memories from my own childhood. I too am from upstate NY, grew up in Whitney Point. I love crafting and am a professional dieter. Currently in WW and slowly have lost 14#. I can remember setting my alarm as a kid and watching Fright Theater in the middle of the night (never alone though) and running up the stairs when it was over not wanting to be last as the boodie man would get the slow one. I sent your website to my sister who lives in Chenango Bridge. I moved to Florida in 1976 but get back to my family every year.
Susan-Cool! Hope your sister stops by. It’s funny, I actually don’t have very many local folks reading.
I laughed until tears came!
The home hair cuts might have been for frugality or just that it was easier than your parents dragging 5 kids out to the barber in subzero Maine weather.
Hello from a fellow Mainer!! 🙂 We live in Howland – almost bought a house in Eddington – but ended up in Howland – although we happen through Eddington all the time on our way to the coast – and stop for Spencer’s Ice Cream in Bradly – ever had it!? 🙂 My daughter attends the Child Study Center at UMO 🙂 – small world LOVE craftsman style – our first house was a CS bungalow in Saint Paul – I’m a Minnesota transplant. I could list other dittos – but just wanted to say ‘hi’ 🙂 it’s not often you run into someone from this neck of the woods! I’m enjoying your blog – and happened across it via another.
I am also from Upstate NY and would be interested in where you actually live.
Just found your site through Family Preparedness and love it! I can understand the moving bit. I grew up Army, enlisted after losing my dependent privileges, and married someone I met in the Air Force. At present we are in Alaska where he took an active duty NG position and will retire off active duty in 3 1/2 years!! After having spent his whole career in Security Forces (enlisted, then officer) we are looking forward to a slightly quieter exsistance! After retirement we will move to a farm we are buying just outside of Friendship,NY. Whereabouts are you in “upstate”? We’ll be on the farm just outside of Friendship but have family in Cuba, Auburn, and Polaski.
Once again I am really enjoying your blog!!
Penny-nice to “meet” you, sorry it took me so long to respond! We are near Binghamton NY-so a little bit aways! Glad to have you reading! Thank your hubs for his service (and thanks to you for your support of him) and hang in their until retirement!
