Bargain Alert! Organic Spaghetti Sauce

March 8, 2007 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 6 Comments

I don’t know if this is a local deal or not, but the Dollar Tree stores near me are carrying Hunt’s Organic Tomato Sauce, Regular and Garlic flavored. I bought 35 cans the other day. I’m not sure how much this stuff costs regularly, but I’m sure it is more than a buck a can-I used to buy the regular Hunt’s sauce in a can at the commissary for close to a buck 2 years ago. Next time I’m in a “real” grocery store (ie not Aldi’s or Save a Lot) I’ll try to remember to check the price on this stuff and post it!

So, if you are interested in organics (and tomatoes are supposed to have one of the higher pesticide residue rates) then you might consider checking out or calling your local Dollar Tree to see if they are carrying this!

I also noticed in my Dollar Tree that they were carrying organic teas back in the food section. So keep your eyes out, you never know what you might find!

Jenn, that is one of the things I LOVE about bargain shopping!

Can you tell me the size of the can? I bought 18 oz jars of Organic Ragu for 99 cents/jar last year, but I’m down to my last jar.

Meredith-They are the metal cans (the exact ones shown in the Hunts site I linked to) and they are Net WT 26.5 OZ (1 LB 10.5 OZ) 751g

I bought the traditional flavor because the first dollar tree I went to didn’t have the garlic-that was where I bought the 35 cans, then I couldn’t justify buying more when I saw the garlic at another branch 🙂

That is a good buy, then. I couldn’t tell from the website link. My Harris-Teeter grocery had the 14.5 ounce organic cans on sale for $1.29 this week.

    Thanks!

I went to our Dollar Tree last week (in Mishawaka, IN) and they had them there so I think it is probably everywhere. That is a great buy! Thanks for sharing!

Glad to know that it is nationally. I did check the price on the regular Hunts (non organic) at Save a Lot today-it runs $.89. So the $1 price on Organic seems appropriate to me. But I’m betting that it runs quite a bit more in your standard grocery store.

Thanks for sharing! I don’t live close by one anymore so don’t just drop in so wouldn’t have found it without your tip & Meredith’s link to it.
