. . . .of my life! Yes, this post is about the little things going on in my life this week, not what to do with the little bits of cereal and chips and stuff left in the bottom of the bag. (although I found this old post from 2004 in a cooking blog that looks very interesting if you are curious)
Some of my regular readers may have noticed that yesterday I failed to post a Works for Me Wednesday tip. I am embarrassed to admit that I spent most of yesterday thinking it was Tuesday. . . . So I didn’t get a tip in. I know, I still could have added one, but by the time I realized it at 4pm, there were already something like 68 tips, and I figured the chances of someone getting all the way to mine was a little remote. So I’ll save my great trash can tip for next week. (Notice the teaser? Have I got you all wondering now? Ha! Tune in next week and see.)
I asked for some input last week about my blog. Thanks to all who responeded. If you have any other comments, criticisms or suggestions, feel free to email me or post a comment. I get between 180-200 hits a day, so I know lots of you are reading, not so many are posting 🙂 I have pretty much decided for right now that I’ll go to a 3 column format (scroll down to rounders 3 original on the left side to see it) of the same style as I already have, and try to incorporate a better book list (the one I have is awkward to update-you have to go into the template each time.) I also would like to make an index of some sort, so folks could more easily look up previous tips or recipes etc. All of this may take a month or so to accomplish though-Princess and Buddy are out of pre-school for the summer so I don’t have as much free time.
On the job front, thank you for all the well wishes. I did my first shift and it was fun. They want me to work Mondays and Tuesdays every week (and decided they don’t need me on the weekends at all! Yes!) from 10-3, so that is 10 hours a week (taking out the lunch break). I’m making $8 an hour, and after 3 months will be eligible for commission. That doesn’t sound like it would add up to much, but they do sell reproduction antiques as well as the knick-knacks; I sold a $699 dollar painted server on my first shift!
The garden is doing well-I’ll post some nice pictures soon. We’ve been adding some fresh lettuce, fresh spinach and raw baby chard into our salads. My peas have been growing like gangbusters (we had a spurt of cooler weather for a week or so) and there are blossoms on the early variety that will hopefully turn into yummy fresh peas soon. DH has been calling me “farmer Jenny”. The only big garden projects I have left are planting the 2 blueberry bushes, planting the potatoes in the tire tower behind the shed, and transplanting some rhubarb from my neighbor (as well as harvesting some).
So, more tips and tricks and general frugality tomorrow, right now I’m off to see why Buddy is running water upstairs (yesterday I walked into the bathroom to find Buddy and Princess in only their underwear, DH’s toothbrush wedged into a bar of soap, and about 1/8th of an inch of soapy water on the bathroom floor. I had heard them playing but thought they were in Princesses room. I blew my stack and then got some quiet time as they were both confined to their rooms for 30 min or so. . . ah, the joys of motherhood).

Sounds like a good plan on the blog. Let me know when you figure out how to do categories on blogger. I’m pretty happy with blogger except for that one little detail.
I would have read your WFMW! I read all of them, LOL!
Buddy and Princess are too funny.
Good luck with the blueberries. What do they look like when they grow? Are they a bush or do they grow like tomatoes? I planted 2 of them and I have no idea what I’m in for. I’ll just be happy if I get enough blueberries to make a pancake.
CEO-I was thinking that I would just make a different post, and use the options section to give it an old date. I would title the post something like “Recipes” and then just list the titles of all the recipes and hotlink to the permalink for each post. It is a bit awkward, but it would work. I think that is what “Chef Michele” did over at http://chefmichele.blogspot.com/ If you look in her left column, you’ll see “Blog Catagories”.
M2F- 🙂 I like to read all the entries, but sometimes I don’t have time. . . Glad the kids amuse-it can be very fun in retrospect, but at the time I was about to blow a gasket. I tell myself that at least they like each other and play together. . .
As for the blueberries, they are high bush, so they do make something that looks like a big bush or a very small tree. I only know this from going to one of those “pick your own” blueberry places last fall. Yum. I think I ate myself silly.
I think I would have eaten more than I put in a basket if I went to a ‘pick your own’ place, LOL! Thanks for the tip. I think I’ll try to put tomato cages around them and see what happens. Oh…and I checked out the leftover cereal cookie recipe. It looks great–I’m definitely going to try that one.
I also would have read your WFMW as I, too, read them all — even if it takes a couple of days! But I would have found yours sooner, since I check out your blog just about daily. I’m enjoying your posts and I’m sure whatever design you decide on will be fine — especially since I come for what’s in the blogs, not on it! Thanks for a great blog!
Just a note on Blueberries. We have had no experience with blueberry bushes until recently. Our new home has several gardens. one of the perennial gardens has blueberry bushes. they stand about two to three feet in height. the berries are larger than our traditional Maine blueberries which stand only a few inches high. As you may remember, we harvest the Maine blueberries with a “rake”. The bushes seem substantial, and probably do not need the support of tomato cages.
Dad-yes, when I did the “self pick” blueberries this year, I was surprised to be picking off a bush that was taller than me! It was a lot easier than bending over – but of course the taste was nothing on those wonderful sweet Maine berries!
