Blueberries

July 27, 2006 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 3 Comments

Took the kids up to my friends land again the other day and we just picked and picked and picked wild blueberries. After about 3 hours (which did include a bit of running after Princess, Buddy and assorted other children) I had picked about 4 cups of the yummiest, sweetest blueberries.

Do you have any idea how much 4 CUPS of wild blueberries would cost in a store? Not to mention since they are grown wild out in the middle of the woods, miles from any major roads etc that they are TOTALLY ORGANIC blueberries.

Hopefully we’ll get a chance to go up and pick at least one more time. Next year, I swear I’m buying a blueberry rake. . . .

And, did I mention that she also has tons of blackberry brambles up there? Now, if she just had some raspberries I’d be in frugal berry heaven. . .

Considering that I’ve seen blueberries hit about $4 for a half pint…I can only imagine what wild ones would go for by the cup, even in season! And I bet they taste a lot better, too!

Did you remember to read “Blueberries for Sal” to the kiddos afterwards?
