When I found the Hunt’s Organic Spaghetti Sauce at the Dollar Tree, I had promised that next time I was at a “regular” (ie not Aldi’s or Save a Lot) grocery store I would check the price to make a comparison.
Well, yesterday Buddy and I went tooling around Wally World after our MOPs meeting-so of course I had to check out the spaghetti sauce section. Well wouldn’t you know it-they didn’t HAVE Hunt’s Organic! Arrghh! They did have two other brands of Organic Spaghetti Sauce-
As you can see, compared to $2.28 and $2.13 for the same amount-$1 a can for 28 oz of organic spaghetti sauce appears to be a good deal, at least in comparison to these two brands. One must keep in mind that Hunts regular spaghetti sauce does tend to run significantly cheaper than the regular spaghetti sauce of these brands as well.
(Can I just say I was a bit worried that some random Wally World worker was going to think I was some sort of bizarre retail spy going around taking pictures of their shelves. I also took a few of some other things for other articles I have planned. The really weird thing is that no one, not a soul who worked their or another shopper, asked me what I was doing. Not even when I was pulling cans closer to the UPC symbols and turning them so that the labels faced front. I must have looked like I knew what I was doing.)
I will continue in my quest to find out what the regular price of Hunts Organic is-but even for my loyal readers I will not waste money and make a special trip to stores I don’t normally frequent. You will just have to wait until I am there for some other reason as well!
Oh-and as a side note, it was 50 degrees and sunny when we went into Wally World, so both Buddy and I had left our coats in the car. It seemed as though everyone else in Vestal NY had decided to go shopping at the same time-so there were no parking spots close to the store. By the time we were ready to leave it had started to rain (where on earth did the rain COME from? I didn’t even see CLOUDS when we went in) since I didn’t want Buddy to get all wet I did what any Frugal Mama would have done and dived into the plastic bag recycling bin and came up with this solution for my darling boy. Let’s just hope that he isn’t damaged for life. . . .

Buddy looks so cute in his impromptu raingear!
It was 65 degrees when I went to a doctor’s appointment today. When I came out a little over an hour later…the sky was overcast and it was freezing! What a crazy day it’s been. And they’re talking snow this weekend. Ugh. Enough, already!
That must have been a real dilemma to be in…..between not letting him get wet, and encouraging him to put a plastic bag over his head!!!! I have no doubt you gave him a lecture about plastic bags at the same time!
I want to say how much I love your blog…..you encourage me to think when I’m shopping!
I just did a similar tour through our new Walmart–I was amazed at how many organic options they offered.
But–I was just stopped by the store manager at Harris-Teeter while taking a snapshot for the Iron Chef Mom challenge. He asked me NOT to take any more photos of the meat case. It was pretty embarassing!
lily-Well, his head wasn’t INSIDE the bag, the side of the bag was over his head like a bonnet and he was holding it on each side š And I’m glad I help you to think. To be honest, knowing I write this blog forces ME to think when I’m shopping!
Meredith-Does that mean that Harris-Teeter is classier than Wally world?
Oh and M2F-this weather ROTS. It had me fooled, I just wanted to believe that we were going to slide into spring-but NOT! Then this snowstorm today. ARgh!
And thanks-Buddy looks cute in just about anything š but he did look especially funny/cute in the bags š
I have to let your readers know that you come from a line of women who take unusal pictures! Do you remember your mother taking pictures of you and your siblings getting your hair cut in the beauty parlor, to name just one incident?
