In Part I of Family Traditions for Christmas-On the Cheap I covered why I think traditions are important and the three ways that folks come by their traditions, A-got them from their family B-consciously decided on a tradition and C-a chance occurrence or idea is repeated and become tradition. My first examples were my family’s tree trimming tradition (A & B), our ornament exchange (A) and our Advent calendar (B). In Part II I covered the Advent Wreath A&B), Part III Jesus’ Birthday Cake (A&B), Part IV Gingerbread Houses (C), Part V Twas the Night Before Christmas, Part VI the Christmas Pageant and Christmas Eve Service. Part VII The Light Drive.
Lastly, Mini Trees
Last year, right before Christmas, I couldn’t resist a 1 foot tall “Barbie” tree marked down to practically nothing at Lowes. It was bright pink with white lights, a pink star, and pink pearlized ornaments. It just screamed “Princess!”.
I hid it and then on Christmas Eve, after Princess was deep asleep, went in and set it up and plugged it in on her dresser. She thought it was just amazing to wake up on Christmas morning and see that Santa had given her a tree. So of course I had to buy a small green one and some ornaments for Buddy in the after season sales. This year they will both wake up on Christmas morning to their own little tree (B).
I just think it is cool, and since they were bought at a deep discount the whole thing probably cost me about $10. Considering I’ll use them for years, that is pretty cheap.
Well, that’s it folks, all the Christmas Traditions we do. Most of them are pretty inexpensive or free – after all traditions are about what you do, not what you spend. What kind of traditions do you all do?

I’m envisioning a little tree all deck out with Hot Wheels!
