Welcome to the roundup! (don’t you feel like I should be shouting “yeehaa!” and thumping a cowboy hat on my thigh when I say that?) This week’s festival is hosted over at “Get Rich Slowly”. This week there are 23 submissions. Since Get Rich Slowly is a financial blog, rather than a frugality specific one, I thought the intro they gave it was very good:
Frugality — the practice of economy, the art of thrift — is a key personal finance skill. In order to accumulate wealth, you must spend less than you earn. By instilling frugal tendencies, this becomes a habit. Get Rich Slowly is proud to host the 39th Festival of Frugality (created by Blueprint for Financial Prosperity). Here are the twenty-two articles on the virtues of frugality from bloggers around the web. Enjoy!
Here are some of my favorite picks!
Five Cent Nickel has a quick tip on saving money on trips to the movie theater. It’s a short article but worth reading just for the final line.
Amanda over at Young and Broke talks about her recent visit to her grandparents, and how differently “The Greatest Generation” live their lives with respect to money and material objects. Very good post that made me tear up a bit at the end (but then again, I’m a sop anyway. I can’t even watch those Hallmark commercials at Christmas time. .. )
When you’ve got a catchy title like “Debt is Not Your Friend”, it just makes folks want to read! Check out what he has to say!
And don’t forget about “Stuff that Goes on Sale at the End of the Summer”. Just remember this though: IF YOU REALLY DON’T NEED IT, IT ISN’T A BARGAIN-IT’S JUST MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN ON SOMETHING YOU DON’T NEED!!!. Sorry to shout, but this is something I have a hard time with myself. (Look! An electric nose hair trimmer for only $3! What a bargain. . . .)
I just love a man who cooks, and totally applaud a single guy who cooks at home to save money. This might be pretty basic for some of us, but for those folks just starting on the cook from scratch wagon, this is a great article at It’s Just Money.
Well, there is lots of other great and interesting stuff over there, but to be totally truthful, I’ve got to head out the door for my first MOPS meeting of the year, so I don’t have time to read any farther down the list. Maybe I’ll break with my tradition and highlight a few more articles tomorrow. Who knows, maybe one of these days I’ll just volunteer to host the whole darn thing and make you guys read them all 🙂

Hi!
“Just remember this though: IF YOU REALLY DON’T NEED IT, IT ISN’T A BARGAIN-IT’S JUST MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN ON SOMETHING YOU DON’T NEED!!!.”
That is the ultimate frugal statement, isn’t it? (BTW, we call them electric dog polishers …)
And how was your first MOPS meeting? I have mine this Friday, my first as MENTOR (slight trepidation).
Happy Wednesday! And I think you should host. I did the Carnivale of Couture once and it was a blast!
