OK, now for the actual Festival of Frugality Roundup! As always, lots of good things to read, these were just a few that caught my attention for one reason or another.
I just love how to’s and makeovers, so you know that How to Makeover a Dining Room Chair for $21 at Creative Homeschooling was a favorite of mine this week.
Wenchypoo has a nice article about overfurnishing your apartment/home and how it can wreak havoc with your budget.
And did you know that rising gas prices are stopping people from eating out? Hmm. To me that sounds like a fine, healthier idea, but if you are a restaurant owner, that probably is a bad thing. . .
Blueprint for Financial Prosperity makes a good point about status symbols. Simply put, since most everyone can charge everything, having things doesn’t prove anything anymore.
The War of the Off Brand Sodas is worth reading just for the pithy commentary alone 🙂 Many of the brands mentioned are not the ones in my local supermarket, but it does give me some ideas of what things to look at. If you have teens who object to the “non brand name” thing, doing a similar taste test with cards and ratings would probably be a fun thing that may convince them to drink a different brand. A blind taste test between the Name and NonName brands would probably be even better!
Have Fun!

When it comes to colas, I can absolutely taste the difference between Coke, Pepsi and cheap stuff. But for all other types, I’ll buy the cheap store brand unless there’s a sale. Although, black cherry soda in a glass bottle is to die for. I can’t remember the brand, but I only buy it as a treat once or twice a year because it’s pricey.
