This week, thanks to the kind folks at Rubbermaid, I am giving away a 20 piece set of food storage containers.
I thought this was a great fit for Frugal Upstate-after all, one of the big ways I advocate saving money is by cooking at home. When you cook at home, you always have plenty of uses for storage containers. You need places to marinate things, to keep prepped food, and of course to place leftovers!
I received the exact set of containers that I am giving away to test and review myself. That was over a month ago-I really wanted to take the time to use them, store them, throw them in the dishwasher~I wanted to put them through all the trials and tribulations that they would go through in a normal house! About the only thing that I didn’t do was freeze in them-but I prefer to freeze things in zippered baggies so I can squeeze out all the air possible.*
The set of 10 pieces (which is really 10 because they count lids and bottoms separately) is a variety pack of sorts. Inside are:
Two Produce Savers, Three Lock-It’s (my favorite-they just seem so secure!), Three Easy Find Lids, and two Premier.
I liked these containers. First of all, they were just so new and pretty! All of my other containers, which function fine, are stained and cloudy looking. But of course looks can be a transient state–so the question is, how did they function?
One of the things I really liked about these products was that all the bases & lids were interchangeable. Well, of course the smallest lids don’t fit on the big containers-but the lids are exactly the same size for the deep and the shallower ones. The deep and the shallow ones all stack nicely together, and you can interchange the bottoms with any style of the tops. It is very convenient.
The Easy lid feature is cool too. Basically, all the lids lock together, and then lock into place on the bottom of the container itself:
The only improvement I would suggest to the Rubbermaid team is to find a way to make all the different kinds of lids attach to each other. With 4 different types of lids in the cupboard I wind up with 4 different stacks. Of course they all stack with their own kind, and they don’t fall out of the cupboard every time I open it! Honestly though, if I were to buy any additional containers, I would pick just one type and purchase those so my entire set would stack in the smallest space.
I gave these containers the full run through in the last month or so. They’ve gone from fridge to microwave to dishwasher with no staining, warping or cloudiness.

Hi there
I was commenting this morning that I have no idea where all of my tupperware containers have gone. Off to friends and families houses I suppose, with goodies inside. I could really use a set about now. I also did tweet about your contest using- check it out: @culinaryculture Thanks!!
Hi Jenn, I would love to win this giveaway for all of our leftovers! We try to stretch all of our meals so we can eat 2 or 3 times and only having to cook once. Hopefully frugal with time and money! Plus I hate how my cheap-o containers start absorbing the smells and flavors, I’ve ended up with some funky things because of it!
Leftover veggies after dinner!
oh…pick me…I have been searching for a good price on these and couldn’t find one. Can’t beat free if I win 🙂 I use them for lunches, freezing, leftovers, etc.
Thanks for this great giveaway!
I already subscribe to your site….that’s why I knew about the giveaway so quickly. Thanks again!!
I take my lunch in them to work. I like the Lock-its, but it would be good to try the other kinds, too.

I would love to put my husbands fermented beets in them.
I am a subscriber, and if I win I plan on putting leftovers in the containers, and cut up veggies/fruit. I do enjoy your blog.
These are coming at the perfect time – to save money, we started our very first veggie garden, and now have nowhere to store all of our bounty! These would be the perfect solution.

Love your blog and have gotten many great tips!
In my house, some of the containers would be used for all the great leftovers we pack away for lunches and future dinners (sometimes in the freezer). I have to admit, some of the containers may be used to hold Lego’s. I’m trying to help my son organize his Lego’s so that I will stop stepping on them all the time (ouch!) and so that he’ll have more fun playing with them because he can find what he needs! I suppose that might help him become more frugal because he might use less of his allowance buying new Lego’s since he could find what he needs easier. Nahhh, probably not!
Just subscribed officially, although I read your blog all the time through Google reader.
I don’t use facebook much but I did blog about it. Does that count? http://www.couponqueenofcorning.com/2009/06/rubbermaid-giveaway_17.html
Oooh I love these containers! My favorite thing to put in them is definitely organic produce, because it tends to spoil faster and the produce saver containers make a big difference.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I’m already subscribed. 😉
