This week, thanks to the kind folks at Rubbermaid, I am giving away a 20 piece set of food storage containers.
I thought this was a great fit for Frugal Upstate-after all, one of the big ways I advocate saving money is by cooking at home. When you cook at home, you always have plenty of uses for storage containers. You need places to marinate things, to keep prepped food, and of course to place leftovers!
I received the exact set of containers that I am giving away to test and review myself. That was over a month ago-I really wanted to take the time to use them, store them, throw them in the dishwasher~I wanted to put them through all the trials and tribulations that they would go through in a normal house! About the only thing that I didn’t do was freeze in them-but I prefer to freeze things in zippered baggies so I can squeeze out all the air possible.*
The set of 10 pieces (which is really 10 because they count lids and bottoms separately) is a variety pack of sorts. Inside are:
Two Produce Savers, Three Lock-It’s (my favorite-they just seem so secure!), Three Easy Find Lids, and two Premier.
I liked these containers. First of all, they were just so new and pretty! All of my other containers, which function fine, are stained and cloudy looking. But of course looks can be a transient state–so the question is, how did they function?
One of the things I really liked about these products was that all the bases & lids were interchangeable. Well, of course the smallest lids don’t fit on the big containers-but the lids are exactly the same size for the deep and the shallower ones. The deep and the shallow ones all stack nicely together, and you can interchange the bottoms with any style of the tops. It is very convenient.
The Easy lid feature is cool too. Basically, all the lids lock together, and then lock into place on the bottom of the container itself:
The only improvement I would suggest to the Rubbermaid team is to find a way to make all the different kinds of lids attach to each other. With 4 different types of lids in the cupboard I wind up with 4 different stacks. Of course they all stack with their own kind, and they don’t fall out of the cupboard every time I open it! Honestly though, if I were to buy any additional containers, I would pick just one type and purchase those so my entire set would stack in the smallest space.
I gave these containers the full run through in the last month or so. They’ve gone from fridge to microwave to dishwasher with no staining, warping or cloudiness.

I would love to win these containers, they will be great to take my lunch in and to store baby food in for my son!
I put this on twitter
Wow! This is an amazing prize. The first thing I would do if I won, would be to throw all my old plastic containers away and see a nice new shiny cabinet organized with the new Rubbermaid products!
I also already subscribe and I did a tweet to send more over!
I love Rubbermaid…. this set would be super for leftovers and for my husband to take his lunch to work in.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I’m a long-time subscriber via feed reader.

I would use them to store slow-cooked meals to defrost when my hubby is on the road. Quick and easy meals when I’m on my own with my kiddo.
we cook from home the majority of the time so we use these containers very often for leftovers. my husband takes his lunch to work with them too. i’m excited to try them because our old ones are stained and warped from all the use.
i’ve been a long time subscriber!!
I’m also a subscriber!
I’d totally store all my leftovers in them. Between my son taking lunch to school, and my 3 brothers coming over for dinner and taking leftovers home, I’m down to maybe 3 pieces of tupperware and old chinese food containers.. I tell them constantly to return my pieces all to no avail .. Oh well, maybe no more goodies sent home until they return. Good luck to everyone!
Oh, I love these! I would use it for all the leftovers we seem to have. My dh is getting better at actually taking them and having leftovers for his lunch, so these would be perfect!
Other than the normal daily leftovers (because I rarely make a meal that gets all eaten) I’d make so chili. 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway.
I would put leftovers. Lots and lots of leftovers!
I’m a subscriber too. Thanks!

Are these made of the harder plastic that does not impart a “plasticky” smell to food?
This would be amazing to add to our ever growing collection of rubbermaid! I would use the small containers to put my husbands lunch sides in, the mediums would be used for homemade ice cream and the larger ones would be used for I don’t know what yet. I twittered: CaseyDavis1221I am trying to win free rubbermaid!!! http://budurl.com/65t2

Thanks for this giveaway! I would use these containers for leftovers (in the fridge or freezer) and also for snacks!
I am a subscriber to your site!
I would use them for packing leftovers for lunches, and I might use some of them for freezing things, too (strawberries, cooked ground meat, sweet corn from later this summer….)
I just signed up for your RSS feed for this new site.
(I had subscribed to your feed at your blogspot site, but dropped it when it quit working consistently. I did check that site; if you are no longer going to update it, you might want to put a note to that effect as a sticky at the top. I checked this URL because I heard you mention it at one point on Frugal Coast2Coast.)
I’m an RSS subscriber 🙂
I’ve been trying to batch cook beans, and I prefer to store individual containers instead of one giant pot, so these containers would be perfect.
So glad I found you gain. I’m a long time reader of yours and I lost ya! I really enjoy your blog.
I’d toss out (or donate) all my old mismatched plasticware and replace it with this.
I subscribe via Google Reader
I would use them when we bring meals to families with new babies. That way, they won’t need to worry about returning the dishes!

I would love the opportunity to redo my food storage container drawer.I also promise that I would never let these Rubbermaid containers and covers get mismatched.
Thanks for the chance to win the set.
I subscribe to Frugal Upstate and even though I’ve pared down the number and types of blogs I read, I will never cut back on this one. Thanks for the chance to win.
Food! Lots and lots of food! lol…our containers are a bit old, so it would be nice to replace them for free.

I am making strawberry jelly. The Rubbermaid storage containers would be perfect for giving containers of homemade jelly to my family and friends.
I’ve been crushing on these containers. Our leftovers would look much more appetizing in these than my cruddy old bowls!
Oh, and I’m an RSS subscriber…
Excellent giveaway! My storage containers are pitiful! I would store leftovers in them, probably.
Thank you for the opportunity to win!
