Well, around here Labor Day is the official end of summer. Want to know the history of Labor Day? Well, this site is a short one page history lesson 🙂
My town has a true home town celebration, complete with parade, a fair set up on the ball flats, and even a carnival midway with appropriately outrageously priced rides. All of the highschool reunions and the annual alumni banquet tie in to the weekend and the day ends off with a huge fireworks display, which we will watch from our friends annual BBQ (their house borders the ballflats, so the deck is a perfect place to watch the fireworks without facing the crowd.)
In true frugalite style, my offerings for the BBQ will be homemade baked beans, carmel corn (I use the recipe straight out of the Betty Crocker Cookbook) and, if I get around to it, deviled eggs!
Well, the parade starts in 40 minutes, so I better go get the kiddos ready. DH headed down early to take one of the antique cars to be in the parade.

Sounds like an All-American holiday! That’s great you can see the fireworks from your friend’s place. What a wonderful way to end the summer!
We’re barbecuing tonight, plus I’m making salad and corn-on-the-cob bought at the farmstands my husband and I visited today out on the Island.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who takes frugal stuff to events. My favorite potluck offering is a mashed potato casserole. People love it!
